One time there was a young teenage girl that was about to finish her first year of college. She considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat and her father was a rather staunch Republican.
One day she was challenging her father on his beliefs and his opposition
to programs like welfare.
He stopped her and asked her how she was doing in school. She answered that she had a 4.0 GPA but it was really tough. She had to study all the time, never had time to go out and party and often went sleepless because of all of the studying. She didn't have time for a boyfriend and didn't really have many college friends because of all her studying.
He then asked how her friend Mary, who was attending the same college, was doing. She replied that she was barely getting by. She had a 2.0 GPA, never studied. She was very popular on campus and was at parties all the time. She often wouldn't show up for classes because she was hung over.
He then asked his daughter why she didn't go to the Dean's office and ask why she couldn't take 1.0 off her 4.0 and give it to her friend that only had a 2.0. That way they would both have a 3.0 GPA.
The daughter fired back and said, "That wouldn't be fair, I worked really hard for mine and my friend has done nothing".
The father smiled and said , "Welcome to the Republican Party". ;)

Good one!
Favorite line from Rush: "A Liberal's idea of fairness is where everyone is equally miserable." :D

Pretty funny story. :)
Only problem is that it only works if the Democrats are all lazy, drunk, party animals and the Republicans are hard working individuals. I don't think party line has any claim to either classification.

That’s not true. That story explains how Democrats strive to take more money from the middle class, upper middle class and wealthy class and funnel it into the lower class. There are some Democrats working hard to take more money from me and give it to the poor (and in most cases, the people who don't work for it nearly as hard as I have).
When I see some poor family walking through Wal-Mart and other stores, I sometimes feel sorry for them thinking to myself "man, they are falling on hard times” then I hear the father or mother talk and I see why they are where they are. Some poor people bust their butt every day to provide for their family, but many of them are the same ones that go out to bars every night and blow most of the money on beer. If half of the poor people in this country would put as much effort into cleaning themselves up, STRIVING for a better job and life, and not being content with making $10.00hr, rather than complaining that the rich get all the breaks and that they never get a chance, then this country would be in a far greater place.
It all depends on how much you’re willing to put forth.

Maybe I have a different sense of humor, but I don't think the joke is funny at all, even if the roles were reversed. Might make me grin if it was an off-the-cuff conversation at my dinner table. My sense of humor aside, what does this have to do with "Puts things into perspective! "

That's weird, I'm not one of those and it still doesn't put anything in perspective.

I guess to put it into perspective, the dean would have to promise to give the 1.0 to Mary, in return for special favors and considerations, but actually give it to his favorite environmental terror group or give it to the kids who aren't even enrolled, but swam across the river and snuck onto campus

I do see what the story was trying to convey. :)
The story though contains a liberal hard working girl who thinks that giving up her hard-earned GPA is not fair. That means she must be a republican. I would not draw that conclusion.
Anyhow, I am not really a debating type of person but I don't like to see people portrayed in stereotypes (as the story infers).

I would not draw the conclusion that you understand this story then. This story is about how a liberal girl would inforce her liberal ways until it becomes personally unfair to her. Her father is pointing out why Republicans get angry over issues that have the same merrit.
That does not mean she is a republican, it means that she holds a double standard when the issue impacts her. Shes not a republican, shes a typical liberal democrat. and there is a clear stereotype.

Wow! Either you, a pretty active contributor of the Debate forum, like to debate for the sake of the dialog, or I'm just hitting a Republican brick wall. In either case, I will leave the story debate to those more passionate about it and go back to the automotive end of things. I already wrote what I think about the story and you can agree or disagree all you like. :)
Peace.

Do I frequently stereotype you and others I debate with? In the last four threads I posted in, you've made about a dozen libelous remarks, labels, and steroetypes. And before you "turned over your new leaf", everything was liberal this liberal that. Hell you even do it still!
Your first remark to me in this thread: " your [sic] a die hard left wing democrat" --- no, no, and no.
