Mercedes loses top resale spot

BMW now best in retained value, new data show; Honda leads non-luxury brands.

By Chris Isidore, CNN/Money Senior Writer

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Mercedes Benz is losing its first place ranking as the car model retaining the greatest percentage of its value over time, according to the firm which tracks that data for the industry.

Not only did they lose the top spot the got knocked out of the top 5. Lexus at number 3 and Toyota at 4 is respectable.

Looks like Mercedes' terrible quality is starting to catch up with them.

It's good to see some of the 'benefits' of buying Chrysler are coming into play.

Hmm . . . Looks like "rebadged" Toyota's & Honda's aren't doing too bad.

Guys,

Let's keep the Mercedes bashing to a minimum please. Enough sensitivity on that topic for a while .

Guy's i'm not trying to follow dave on this, just make my own observation here.

What makes CL what it is, is the lack of bashing, arguments, and child like behavior you see on other forums. Our members are educated, mature, and well rounded enough to overlook the "little one's" and proceed with an intelligent conversation that is worlds above what most people can think up in a half hour on some of the other forums out there, ...... we can type it freely strait from our heads.

I am proud of this forum and see no need for anyone to take any action that would make them look like less of a person than they really are. It would just be a major dissapointment.

Let's try to be positive on subjects and not negative so when someone visits us from another forum we don't have skeletons in the closet to try and hide. Just good posts from good members.

hey guys,

it seems that some members of club lexus are more equal than others.
when it comes to information regarding Lexus it seems that the only
news that is welcome is good news. and when information is brought
forward that goes against the herd....sensorship is employed to keep the
herd happy. this is certainly not a mature
or educated way to expand ones mind.
i've been involved in many discussions on this board and
MBworld and Acura forums. only on CL has information and opinion
been suppressed and deleted.

i wouldn't go patting yourselves on the back just yet.

sensorship is employed
did you mean Censorship? who is educating whom? you have repeatedly came into multiple threads talking down this website and the people on it. You continually attempt to cause strife. You continue to undermine forum administrators and their decisions. I think it's time to make a change.

I agree with OLT. S55inPA has exhibited enough juvenile behaviour and he can't seem to take any of the hints, requests or official warnings from the moderators of this forum to take a break and cool off.

I had hoped he would understand our requests as he often brough a valuable and welcome viewpoint about Mercedes to our forum, but he can't seem to understand why the manner in which he recently began communicating his regular diatribe topics "Lexus is bland" and "Mercedes is better than Lexus" was troll-like and immature.

So that those folks who read this can understand why he was banned from our forums, I'll give you some examples:

Lexus is only 1 step ahead of Acura and nowhere close to being equal to Mercedes Benz.
if Lexus didn't have rebadged toyotas ...
Lexus really isn't the equal of MB. ...what you see is an off shoot of Toyota still trying to establish
itself in the high end luxury market place.
i am very curious as to the new GS.....if it ever comes out
Originally posted by S55inPA
the main reason is that Lexus automobiles tend to be very bland, vanilla, or in the cases of the new ES
and SC just plain unattractive. ... so when i read the posts in the GX forum
i feel in some way vindicated that Lexus and MB are really not that far
apart in reliability.....if at all.
i realize that i'm posting some negative comments about Lexus on a Lexus forum but
what do you say we get real here......come on guys lets not act so superior..... the LS is slabsided
while the MB's are actually sculpted and filled with detail from front to back.

right now Lexus has 4 Lexus only dedicated models with very little difference from the
top of the line model (ie GS 300 to GS400). with only 4 models they should be able
to focus on them and make them troulbe free don't you think.....but Mercedes still is standard. who's really chasing who?
like i said Lexus has only 4 true automobiles built for the brand.
if Acura were to build a V8 they would instantly be the equal of Lexus.
think about it guys....that's all that separates Lexus from the near
luxury.

hey guys.....just think.....if Lexus does start sinking in the JDpower surveys....
and Benz starts rising.....will you honestly be able to defend Lexus on the
exterior appearance??? i doubt you would be able to convince many
people that Lexus styling is cutting edge...more like cutting room floor!!....
or Xeroxed from Benz and then watered down!!!
is it me or is Infiniti catching up to Lexus.
it seems that they are being very aggresive with new introductions.
plus they are putting the right amount of hp in their cars.
any thoughts??
can they be behind schedule with the new GS?.... as for Lexus being the number 1 luxury maker....they not quite there yet.
also i stopped by the MB service department to ask for a part number. we talked about
cars for a bit. i brought up how the japanese vehicles seem to have less service issues
and they pointed out that the lexus service department has a full time engine rebuilder
because of the amount of engine failures that Lexus auto's experience. they blame it mainly
on sludging in the engine.

there were no reported problems with the owners. then he said
Lexus owners like to think there cars don't ever break down(denial). he also
said that he would find out more details for me so i would not look like
i was crazy. so i'm waiting for him to email me with some more details.
like i said before i don't think he's saying this out of a bias against Lexus.
my local dealer carries something like 15 brands and it's not uncommon
for service reps to be moved from brand to another. .......

----------------------------------------------------

The above excerpts are just some of the examples of S55inPA's passive aggressive behavior towards posting in our forum. Of late, his sole purpose seemed to be to post just to stir up controversy and flame... but then mix it with some "but I really like Lexus" comment to mask his ugliness.

ClubLexus does encourage healthy mature discussion about Mercedes vs Lexus and most any other topic, but for S55inPA to come onto our Lexus forum with a clear agenda to be regularly antagonistic and argumentative with our general forum population of Lexus owners is neither appreciated nor wanted. He ignored several public and private warnings from our moderators. He had one rude and ugly post deleted so we could unlock this thread and it could continue to be discussed.

This isn't a Mercedes vs Lexus issue... I've suspended members of Clublexus for going over to MBWorld and starting troll wars on the MB forums in the past and the majority of our forum members have shown nothing but respect for their fine cars. This is a (former) member of ClubLexus could not obey our forum rules issue.
