Cool SC vs. Modified 240sx???

Well, I'll be getting my car soon, and im just wonderingwhat you would choose for $7-8k

92 - 95 SC300 5spd. Prolly around 90k to 110k miles on it. Whatever color. Stock

or

95+ Nissan 240sx. SR20DET (Turbo, 250 hp I think) engine swap, or turbo kit. 5spd. Get all the turbo goodies, a nice R33 skyline front bumper. Whatever color. Nothing too rice.

Both are RWD, both are nice, both arent too common. Which would you choose?

I'm pretty sure that the 240SX with the SR20DET. It's got more HP and it's also lighter.

thats a really tough choice man because i have had both cars almost (i have a sc400) which i really regret gettin and i totalled my 97 240sx. but all i can say to help you out is remember that a 240 only weighs 2800 lbs and the sc is a 3600 lbs pig. both are not that common but a 97+ 240 is alot less common than a sc which i see several of a day. the sc is alot classier but both are 2 very beautiful sports cars and also both have great turbo possibilities. also if you do get a 240 only get a 97-98 you gotta love those headlights looks so much better than the old 95-96 headlights. sorry i couldnt be of anymore help but i wouldn't know what to choose either, good luck.

p.s. here's a pic of what my kit looked like, probably to rice for you though.

if you can find a decent condition 240 and still have enough $$ left over to do a turbo or engine swap,go for it!

Good call SCryder... I'd have to agree, although SC's aren't necessarily slow are they???

I look at it like this, and this is ONLY my opinion.

If you are looking for just a fast car you can mod, Lexus is the LAST thing that should be on your mind. Lexus only has a handful of DIY'ers that are building mods for our cars. Everything else has aftermarket heaven.

Now, that was the facts, here's my opinion.

If you cannot appreciate a Lexus auto V/S a dang nissan you don't need to even be window shopping for another Lexus. JMO !!

I think you are looking for specifically a "tuner" to mod and drive. Your profile says you already own a 400 so you seem to just be looking for a tuner to mod and raise cain in, so i'd say the nissan would be better due to the aftermarket availability and cost of parts. .

driver's car, drift machine, and looking at the E46 M3 dissapearing in your rear mirror - 240 w/ SR20DET

daily driver, luxry machine, and being comfortable whether cruising or stuck in traffic - SC

I was actually looking for Mk III Supra Turbo or a 95+ 240 when i was car shopping.(Pain in the #@^ to find a good one with stick for either of them) Ended up with SC because my dad likes toyota more and he likes this car more than those 2. Whenever I want to drive fast, I regret that I didn't get one of those two. But whenever i get stuck in traffic(especially during the storm here in socal today ), I'm just so glad that I'm in SC instead of those two. Anyways, enough venting Ya, I'd agree that you should go for 240 if you can find a good one and can still have left over $$ for the swap. Otherwise, SC's aren't that bad either!

thank you all so much

and OLT, does my profile say that? i cant see it, my bad. I dont have a SC right now, but I have been looking to buy one for a while, and the time is coming up very soon.

and i did NOT mean to imply that SC's are bad in anyway. I may still end up buying one. Its between the SC and the 240SX. they are both great. the SC is one of the nicest cars EVER made

but it all pretty much comes down to the 5-speed for me. I LOVE stick shift, and if i can find a 5speed SC in my price range, then I'll buy it in a second.

Thanks

Funny thing.... I was in the same boat you were in. I was stuck between a '98 S14 SE or a '95 SC300 5 speed. I thought to myself that the S14 would be too much of a project car. Ive already owned 3 other fixed up cars before the SC and I figured it was time to *grow up* and get something more "respectable." Id say go for the 5 speed SC. It wont be as fast as an S14, but you can still drift it. If you get too bored with it, you can always swap in a GTE
