It's for those who want to tell everyone they have a BMW, but cannot afford a X5. I had this same line told to me when shopping for a friend looking at a 318i.

There's just so much more in the same price range that can offer you much better utilities, just minus the "BMW Badge". A 318i falls in the same hemisphere i suppose.
Its just like the guys in the 92 318 thats in crappy condition walking up to you and saying, yeah man I got a beamer!! i tell them, no you dont, that USED to be a beamer!!!!!! LOL
Not a big fan of the matte black plastic cladding, makes it look a little too Saturn VUE-ish too me. Color keyed would have been much classier, and should have been included on at least the 3.0 model (perhaps as a way to differentiate in from the 2.5). I know, the Land Rover Freelander has non-color keyed cladding, and it's probably the only other mini-ute to carry a premium nameplate in the US. Interior borrows some elements from both the Z4 and the current 3.
I'll take a 325i/330i over the X3, especially now that the SMG is available on the 3 (although I think it's the ZF version from the Z4 that's had mixed reviews, rather than the superb Getrag M3 version)...

I wish my RX330 had more sportier option packages to choose from.
Although the monochromatic color treatment and wheels make it look better, it still does not have the timeless (pre Bangle) BMW presence! Look at the old 5, 7 series, even today, with minor updates a 96 528 is a very handsome vehicle.
I just cant see the newer models (post Bangle) faring as well against father time!!
