View Full Version : Everyone post your very first DIY mod..
lexusk8 01-08-04, 11:31 AM -- Note the word "DIY", which means it's a mod done by yourself, not by others ;)
I'll get started. It was the Sylvania Silverstars installed in my previous ES. I remembered thinking it'd be a tough mod, but thanks to CL, I installed the mod in 15 min.
D2-AUTOSPORT 01-08-04, 01:49 PM My very first DIY mod was on my 1st car (95 Accord) back in '98, I installed clear turn signals!!! (And thought I was the MAN!!)
On my 96 GS, it was those Hi output blue bulbs (head and fog)
I installed a leather telephone console on my GS.

Retrodrive's hood strut repair on my 92 LS - I smile everytime that hood lifts itself.
Wald GS 01-08-04, 10:11 PM The first DIY mod was the IS300 fog lights. Since then, I have done quite a few such as the eyelids, is300 fog lights, clearing the headlights(thanks for helping me jmai22), and intake.
Davtown 01-09-04, 12:44 AM I washed it :D
lexusk8 01-09-04, 06:19 AM bluepiz, I like your mod :p
I see you got the 1st-gen stock ES wheels on your '99. I guess you like the look of it better than the '99 stockies, right? :D

Captain Bone 01-09-04, 07:21 AM Installed my L-Tuned Grille and messed around with the safety latch :)

L-Tuned ECU. This was way back when LexusRules still had the pics on his site.
clear side marker and chrome grill (same day)
TurboSC 01-09-04, 10:54 AM This was one of the first DIY mods I did.. made a REAL cold air intake that actually went down into the bumper..

Another one I did was "de-lining" the headlights.

Next project is swapping the TT Supra gauge cluster into mine so I can have a 10K TRD tach! :D
GlobeCLK 01-09-04, 01:46 PM the first is actually a very ugly "silver inner taillight" mod. Not too good looking so I removed it.
The first official good DIY mod is the red signal taillights.
Installed TRD strut bar and SRT intake.
XenonES3 01-09-04, 05:39 PM My first mods as soon as I bought my ES:
-Cleared the corners with reflective monochromatic reflective stickers to make 'em street legal:D
-Red-out tails
-DIY intake
-Blue ricer bulbs:D
-Blue ricer signals:D
-5% tint all the way around
All this in about 12 hours:eek2:
MrJohnTan 01-09-04, 08:59 PM My first DIY mod was when I unbolted my muffler, advanced the timing, and opened the airbox of my integra GSR back in 1995

Bought the car used in April of '03 with 44k miles, and those wheels were already on it... just curious, what do the stock wheels on a 99 ES look like? I've never given it much thought at all until now.
Another possibility is that THESE are the actual stockies, and all the other 99 ES300's have upgraded wheels. After all, the rest of the car is completely stock. No sunroof, no leather (and nope, i don't mind the cloth , I actually prefer it to leather).
EDIT: are these the stock wheels?

I really don't mind that much, both of these wheelstyles look fine to me, I'm not too picky about my car
bluepiz, the base ES here in Australia (your model) came with cloth and hubcaps :egads: I remember looking at a fine ES (leather, all options) then the turbo rush got hold of me :D
First DIY mods:
- Changed the headlight bulbs when the stockies blew, then changed the parkers to suit lol
- Removed the sunroof visor thing (UGLY!)
- Installed my CD player
- BFI mod on my intake

I wasn't a thought in anyone's mind in 1970 because I was still 15 years away!
