Default What to buy now?

Hey guys,
as many of you know i just sold my 2000 ltuned spectra blue gs400. That car was smokin hot, as i woud get compliments all the time. Well, now what do i get? I am looking at the m3 and the m5. I liked the gs, but hated the fact that the handling sucked and the ride wasn't sporty enough even with the ltuned kit. The m3 blows away the gs from my perspective. What do i do? Does anyone have an m3 and had or currently have a gs and could let me know what they think? Please respond as you guys will help me out alot. thanks

M3 and GS are two totally different cars. Being a lighter, sports tuned car, of course the M3 will blow away the GS in handling. The M3 is a rough ride though so you won't get the lux feel of the GS. If you wanted ultimate handling to be compared to the BMWs, L-Tuned S/S were not the way to go. You should have went with a more agressive set of coilovers. There are ways to get the GS to be a very capable handling car (for an almost 4000lbs car that is ).

You will also have to quantify the M3 blowing away the GS part. Depends on your priorities.

Anyway, you may want to PM bliu. He has an M3 and a GS400.

I'm not sure why your asking for a comparison between the two, you already sold your GS so its a mute point . Like mentioned previously, they are two entirely diffrently classed cars....why compare the two.

The M3 is a nice car, I say go get one if thats what you like.....after all, this is about what you like...not what the rest of us think.

By the way, I would be willing to put my car up against a new M3 in the performance category!!

u definately didn't get a true value of the gs on l-tuned if u r wanting a more aggressive performance ride. the l-tuned is very nice but if u in it 4 what u say u r than a set of coils and under bars would have been th eway 2 go...4 the money it will cost 2 get an m3 u could have just taken that difference in money and done something like mr ttpimp oe jcramair and had the best of both worlds or since u r in the market again get a gs300 and turbo it and man u'll b flying by m5's allday with more luxury...

as others have mentioned, the GS is gone so its kinda tough to fairly asses the 2. That being said, coming out of a GS, I think I would have to step into a M5 or E55 in order to 'step up'. I'm not willing to sacrifice luxury and there are no 4doors in its class that can beat a GS400.

If I were in your shoes I would probably get a M5, buy some Racing Dynamics Coilovers on it (they have external hydraulic lines for the shocks ), Intake/exhaust, and some 20" HRE 540s!! Then you will still have luxury (althought the E39 cabin is not as plush as a GS), space, and more power!!

Just hope you dont mind buying a bodystyle that is now 1 generation behind!

now jeff , that would not be fair , you against a misely m3 , you need to go up against a f16 or something bro , and then they might have a chance

i dont know about the other guys but i just switched to some bilstein sports with my lowering springs and with sways and other braces top and bottom , m3 could not shake me , i ran one just yesterday and i sat on his bumper like it was nothing

As I mentioned in another post here, you may want to consider the Audi 2.7T Quatrro with 6 speed. With chipping, upgraded turbos, suspension tweaks and wheels you get an awesome 400HP car for less than $30K for a year 2000 or 2001.

Just a thought... I am thinkiing that way now as my next fun car

That's a good question. I know a couple CL members that own both. OLT and Baby M3 come to mind. I've actually been looking at picking up a 325i just to have a 4 door car.
