Default Seeking Clublexus Opinions on my new project.

Most of you know we are doing the LS1 swap into rx7 I bought recently for it, but I have been kicking around a few ideas and trying to decide what to do exactly.

After calculating ballpark costs to do my swap it is looking like a c5r blocked 427ci + spray setup will run @$40-$45k in parts w/o labor. Doing a stock displacement or 383 turbo setup would cost roughly the same amount.

It seems to me like both would be 550-600 RWHP cars on pump gas. Race gas on one would allow me to use a 200-300 shot of spray, and race gas on the other would probably allow me to triple the boost (Dependent on final setup).

So, if both were going to be the same money (which it looks like they would be) which would you choose and why?

is one set up lighter than the other? (smaller engine= smaller weight????) If so, I would go with the lighter engine that is still pumping out the same ammount of HP.

i like the turbo setup

why? because you wont run out of power until you run out of gas... its less keep-up as far as consumables are concerned; and with a setup like that; there's already a lot of stuff to worry/think about

I would go with the turbo setup.

The 427 with spray would be fun, but I'd pick a turbo over NOS anyday....

At heart I'm all American and nothing is more American than big cubes. A 427 C5-R block would be absolutely amazing in a car that small and the fact that those motors are bullet proof to the max, I think it would be a good fit for your 200-300 nitrous shot. Have you looked into the most recent crate engine from chevy, the 572? There would probably be size issues in that small of a car, but if t would fit, imagine 600+ hp out of the box!

Ebanks,

Perhaps you've already discussed this in another thread, but why a big block? That seems like an awful lot of money. Why not the 3 rotor or the 2jz-gte? I'm sure you've seen the Supra 7...

In any case, that car is going to be nuts!

he's already done the 2jz... its gotten old in his book, plus hes basically done everything to the 2jz that can be done to the 2jz. Time for a new motor to max out.

Me personally, I would do the turbo setup. But thats because im new to the world of turbo.

Just the fact of pulling up in an RX-7 and roaring that 427 would be worth the extra pain if any involved. Just to see american muscle in a small import would be awesome. Man I can see those huge tubes out the back roaring like a ****....beautiful.....

RX-7 turbo has been done, now dropping in american muscle hasn't been done, at least I havent seen it.

Hm... This is such a tough decision to make. It seems like the general concensus among LS1 guys is that the 427 + spray would be quicker, I am just SO used to turbos that I am scared I will miss the feeling of it.

What to do...

Regardless this is going to turn out to be a 2 year project.

LOL, and you could also add the spray later on then, when you want to go even faster.
