Default Bad news for 7 series fans, good news for LS fans

Just saw an amazing piece on CNBC where the reporter asked a guy from Consumer Reports to state the results of their car surveys about the most and least reliable vehicles.

Least reliable in first 6 months of ownership: BMW 7 series!

Most reliable: LS430

The guy went on to say that an 8 year old LS400 is STILL more reliable than a 6 month old 7 series.

Could Lexus get any better press than this!?!?

I like a fun to drive car too, but I don't look at it as a top priority in a big luxury sedan like a BMW 7 or LS430, I would get a smaller coupe or sports sedan which will be more fun to drive than both of them .

Luxury, quality & refinement and a near flawless ownership experience are the most important for a car in the premium luxury class in my book. How can it be enjoyable luxury when a car has to go to the shop frequently, especially given the price one has to pay for these cars ?

Maybe you guys are missing the point... the reporter didn't just say the 7 series was less reliable than an LS430, he said the 7 series was the least reliable car of ALL cars! He said it was plagued by creaks, squeaks, electrical faults, and computer glitches. What a joke. He said the LS had no faults at all.

The resale value of the new 7 reflects that.

I'm with SexySC here. What can be fun about a 5,000lbs car? Its hard enough in a 4,000lbs one.

Great news!!
I love the LS430 (04 model especially) and wouldn't even think about getting another car in that category.
Poor 7 owners

That's really terrible news for BMW, especially for their flagship car.

I agree with most of you, but you also have to remember that the new 7er has newer toys in it that the LS doesnt have. Give it a few years and bmw will work the bugs out... otherwise i too would get a LS430. (actually rather get the A8)

Problem is, the new toys got universally blasted as ergonomics and reliability nightmare, whereas LS430 features and ergonomics are functionally more sophisticated & got great praises from almost everyone.

Second, after "a few years" time, when they at least work some of the bugs out, it's time for another new 7 series redesign, when they have to put different new "toys" to impress . . . . . here we go again
