View Full Version : Went to a hillclimb on sunday.
My friend asked me to go with him to a hillclimb in Germany last sunday.
Sounded like a good plan so we where off at just over 6 am.............way too early to wake up on sunday, let alone start driving.

In Holland we have very strickt speeding rules but in Germany you can let the car go a little faster.
We made some good time trough Germany!!!

There was still a little left when I had it a little over 240.
Not bad for a GS300 huh?
BTW, that is KM/H, not MP/H
When we arived at the little town in Germany we wen't up the hill and found us a good spot too see the action.
It was damn cold though!!

We where only about 30 meters away from the track and the sound these purpose build cars produced was still deafening.
Here is another pic trackside.

These cars look like mini Le Mans cars
There was also a catagory with Seat (VW sister company, based on the GOLF 4) Leon race cars.
These things where pretty fast.

Look at the negative camber on the front wheels!!
Most of the cars competing where in a "Yountimer" class, meaning they are all from mostly the 70's and 80's.
Don't let the old age make you think they are slow.
These cars had 1300/1600/1800cc engines that rev to 11000 rpm.
This is a Golf 1 that was in competition.
http://www.clublexus.com/gallery/data/500/1269Golf1.jpg
This was the fasted "yountimer" at the straight we where sitting.
This was faster then a porsche GT3 RS!!!

A lot of the top cars in the 2000cc youngtimer class where these Opels.
http://www.clublexus.com/gallery/data/500/1269Opel_C_kadet.jpg
This one was pretty much stock, bodywise.
Most of those Opels and other cars that where in competition look more like this with crazy wings and stuff.
http://www.clublexus.com/gallery/data/500/1269Opel_C_kadet1.jpg
Most of the top guys in each class had a lot of aerodynamic stuff on their cars.
Look at the diffusor and wings on this on.
All to keep the car on the road and make the cornering as fast as possible.

This is a VW Polo (the golf's smaller brother) waiting for the start.
They try to fit as wide a slick as possible on these cars, look at the fender flares!!!
http://www.clublexus.com/gallery/data/500/1269Polo_before_start.jpg
This one was just OTT, look at the body mods, it even had a CF diffusor underneath the car.

There where also other classes with higher powered cars like this pretty rare Porsche 993 RS 3.8.
These cars where slower then the top Youngtimer cars.

Competing with the 993 was this brand spanking new 996 GT3 RS.
Imagine crashing that. There is not really room for errors on these kind of tracks. If you make a mistake, you crash the car.

Another pic of the GT3 RS.
It sounds really sweet!!

The really fast guys use ex F3 and F3000 cars.
With the F3000 cars you have cars weighing 580 kg (around a 1000 pounds) with 500 hp.
Look at the rear wing of this one, ultra high downforce and it still managed to get upto 5th gear on the short straight

There was another class with ex-DTM and ex- WRC cars but I couldn't get any good pics from those.
After we went to the hillclimb we went to meet up with another CL member.
BlownIS200 had had his IS200 fitted with a 2JZ-GTE as you can read here (http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=79220) .
The car is allmost finished so he took us for a testdrive. The car was limited to 4000 rpm and .5 bar boost but is was allready FAST!!!
