ARISTO*7 01-20-05, 06:28 PM there is no monthly fee.. just a one time activation fee.. thats it.. blacksc400 04-27-05, 06:27 PM depends on area... I don;t need it. Stage3 06-05-05, 10:25 PM not a bad idea to have. too bad they dont work from the inside of containers. better respond quick! Lexmex 07-28-06, 07:25 AM Probably better than what my father had to deal with when we lived in Caracas...virtually everyone had a handgun in the glove compartment, legal and ready to fire. Lojack and a bunch of other competitors exist in Mexico. I heard they have actually located several cars stolen from the U.S. and driven to Mexico (big problem) since the coverage now exists down here. DASHOCKER 07-28-06, 07:42 AM Car theft happens when you least expect it. Get Lojack. You also get 10% off your comprehensive insurance if you have Lojack or other tracking system installed. So many horror stories on this forum about cars getting stolen and stripped. 1SICKLEX 07-28-06, 08:37 AM Car theft happens when you least expect it. I have had it on both my GSs...  Magellan 08-04-06, 04:46 PM We bought Lojack for our new IS250 for $850. When I called my insurance company (USAA) to delete our traded-in 2000 Mercury Sable (no Lojack) and add the new car I was expecting a rate increase of at least $1,000. I was surprised to hear the annual premium increase was only $456 due to having Lojack. That means it will pay for itself in two years, and after that I’m ahead of the game. Regardless if the car ever gets stolen, I’m sold on the device. CVsIS250 08-08-06, 11:51 AM ummm, what is lojack?? CV Magellan 08-09-06, 10:13 AM ummm, what is lojack?? CVLojack is small electronic device placed in a secret spot on an automobile that puts out a constant homing signal. If the car is stolen and then reported to the police they can input the VIN and locate the car, sort of like GPS does. Cars are usually found within 24 hours. When the device is installed the car’s owner is not permitted to know where the device was installed (When ours was installed we were not allowed to watch). In fact, to foil car thieves the device is installed in different locations for each car so no one really knows where it is. Of course, some smart car thieves, never knowing if a Lojack device is present, have been known to just park a stolen car somewhere for a few days to see if it claimed before doing anything more with it. Cops, to foil this, have staked out stolen cars that they know has Lojack, waiting for the thieves to pick it up after this self-imposed “waiting period.” For high-end cars like a Lexus, it is worth considering especially, as I mentioned before, the insurance break given by most insurance companies. GILLEXUS 08-17-06, 11:52 AM ummm, what is lojack?? CV Another thing is they don't put any stickers on the car advertising like Magellan stated many time thieves are unaware there is any type of theft system in the car and they drive for a few days they even park them in there garage or back yard thinking it is safe. The signal can be picked up from inside builldings or fences from the recieving units that are placed in police cars. Not to slam to on-star ( any system is better than nothing) but when they take an on-star car they can rip off the on-star antenna and no more signal. The good thing is though many average thieves don't even think to mess w/ the on-star antenna.too dumb Here the Cops were led to a garage sending out a Lojak signal for an Acura and found 4 guys had just taken the doors off of it and they a found a Civic that had already been 1/2 striped. Mom and dad thought they were just working on thieir own cars in the garage. GILLEXUS 08-17-06, 01:14 PM I think if you are in an area where lo jack is offered and it seems like a cost effective solution, then go for it. But its seems like personal GPS tracking devices are becoming a more cost effective and just gerneraly speak more competent way to track your vehicle. So many major distributing companies are using small personal GPS that it has leaked into smaller business thus lowering the price greatly.... (the Hulk installed a personal GPS tracking in his Expedition on his show the other day....) My biggest problem with Lo Jack is that you are depending on local law enforcment as well as another company to network. Id rather just take matters into my own hands and then let the cops know where to go get my car..... but in light of my opinion i have no real clue or hands on experience It has to be available in your area to be worth it to me or if you have have some costly mods to your car. Any system is better than nothing and if you can get another GPS type system cheaper and no on going monthly fee I would say go for it. I have some experience w/ Lojack if your car goes to another state when it is located it is the police that locate it. You don't have to track it and try and get a hold of the local law enforcement then find out who's jurisdiction it is then if a police car is available to. Or if your car is on the move and being driven around all day you'll be calling the police every 10min givning them updates that won't last long before they say "okay we know the general area we'll look for it" But a GPS a system is good better than nothing Magellan 08-17-06, 03:20 PM My biggest problem with Lo Jack is that you are depending on local law enforcment as well as another company to network. Id rather just take matters into my own hands and then let the cops know where to go get my car.....I’m not sure what you mean here. If your car is stolen you would want to report it to the police immediately, before it ends up chopped into 200 pieces or put on a ship somewhere. After you tell the police you have lojack they can find the car more quickly than your hunting it down yourself and, only then, reporting it stolen and telling them where to find it. Then there’s the question of your own personal safety, i.e., getting too close to a car under the control of thieves. My other question is: Are personal GPS tracking devices as difficult to find or are as undetectable as lojack devices? I mean wrapping your GPS device around a pipe somewhere with some duct tape doesn’t do it for me. |
