View Full Version : Next 3 convertible will have a 3 stage hardtop ala IS 300
1SICKLEX 09-25-04, 02:27 AM No pics yet but seems BMW will have their next 3 as a hardtop and like the next IS 300 coupe, the system will offer targa mode when the top portion of the roof will fold back as well as a full drop to a convertible.
Whereas the IS coupe will offer this system only on it's 2-door, not sure if BMW will offer this and a true fixed roof coupe.
Wouldn't that be the 4-seris? ;);

Hmmmm, GREAT point. I thought BMW wasn't going to use the 4 name? But for this kind of vehicle, it kind of works.
Gojirra99 09-25-04, 07:20 AM Who's the copycat this time ? ;)
According to the latest info I've read, anything with two doors except the M3 (to cut down on the confusion) will be some sort of 4 series.

They should keep the M3 name  :agreed:
Gojirra99 09-25-04, 01:26 PM Don't know about a 3 stage hardtop convertible M3 though, that may be too heavy a set-up for it to be a true performance car it's suppose to be. :dunno:

There were some early car mags that had titles like "M4 spy shots" and I guess that didn't sound right so BMW will stick to M3.

I can't seem to picture this; the roof portion will fold away (and look like an NSX-T) OR can be a traditional convertible?
Sorry for the next 2 posts; I don't know how to attach 2 pics on one page... :(
NeverSatisfied 09-25-04, 02:20 PM Targa
NeverSatisfied 09-25-04, 02:23 PM or convertible? If so, that's awesome! :D The new IS will be the next replacement!

You are correct. You will be able to drive like a targa like that NSX or drop it all down like the SC 430.
Lexus wants to be the 1st to market this new offering. Lexus has big plans and hopes for the next IS.
NeverSatisfied 09-25-04, 07:22 PM :eek3: I need to get the KBB on my RX330! ;)
Captain Bone 09-25-04, 09:26 PM Very interesting.
On a side note... I notice Mr. Sick has added "The Dark Knight" to his siggy. Hmm... I wonder... :)

mclaren 09-25-04, 10:08 PM Haven't heard that they were going to make a hard top convertable. I'll have to check this out with my sources :batman:
I know they won't change the 3 to a 4 series. Besides having to much in to the M3 name as well as 3 in general, they figured it would just be to confusing. I'm curious though to see if this rumor of a hardtop is true.

I don't see the crease to make it a targa.
