I am thinking about an SUV.

Porsche Cayenne turbo would be first choice but they are running 70k used.

Second is the new body Range. I know people always say how unreliable they are but I'd like to hear any first person experiences.

Third is X5 but it is just too dated.

Any input is appreciated.

And no, I don't want a Lexus SUV because they are boring.

Why not a GX? Those are pretty good. I think my folks got theres for somewhere around 60 out the door, maybe more. They're great vehicles!

I actually went to the Lexus Test Drive when the GX was new.

I didn't think it was really up to par with other Lexus vehicles.

Plus, since I will be giving up my GS which has all the handling goodies, it is going to have to have a pretty decent suspension.

I don't want to roll over. :D

My cousin had a Range Rover...and it exploded outside of his house. No joke, the stock alarm shorted out in the middle of the night, caught fire, burned for a while and exploded in the middle of a quiet neighborhood. I will never own any Land Rover product.

My D90 was the most simple to the point fun vehicle I have owned.

We had a Range Rover for a little bit over a year now. SO far >23k miles, was only once in the shop for service. I've drove ML500, RX330, GX470, LX470, X5 4.4 - none of this cars are as good as Range Rover.
I love it, its great inside and outside, very comfortable, handles great for the size, suspension is awesome, even Cayene TT didn't impress me as much as Range Rover did. I don't like nav system, it's sux, but i know my town really well and i didn't have a chance to use it.
Ah and 1 more thing, IMO its SOOO PIMP ;)

If you have any questions, feel free to pm me.

Not quite as plush as the new range, and definately more generic is the ML55. My roommate has one and never has problems. Not to say they wouldn't crop up, but probably not any more so than on the range, and I would say the ML55 is probably a lot more fun to drive.

Plus they are quite a bit cheaper on the used market than the new ranges are.

Well if you're looking for class and luxury, it's hard to beat the new Range Rover... what is your price range? You mentioned the Cayenne TT was a little too high at 70k, so what exactly are you shooting for?

I personally have not owned a Range Rover, But everyone I have known who HAD one complained about the reliability. I would skip it unless you HAVE to have Range Rover for the image. Look at the JD surveys... They are on the bottom of the list. Your choice.

I have a Chayenne let me tell you they are excellent trucks, BUT (and I am not ashamed) the Touareg is almost as good too.
