"Nah this car isn't any different than your average Toyota. Just an L on the hood"
LMAO.
A technician at Circuit City was helping me trouble shoot my aftermarket XM radio in my 99 GS4 a few months back. He took the bottom of the back seat out in less than 15 seconds. I was kind of surprised that it was so easy and asked him if there was a trick to it or if you just needed to pull, as I had always kind of wondered. This guy got all defensive and said "What you think because this is a Lexus it's built any better than your average Toyota? Nah man, it's the exact same construction used in the Camry in 99% of the places in this car... just more sound deadening and a more powerful motor".
Good God was this guy defensive. He must have had a Toyota and had some complex toward Lexus cars. All I wondered was how he made removing the back seat look so easy.
I told him the ES300/330 was the platform mate of the Camry, and that the only thing my car shared with it was a few minor parts like the cruise control stalk. I said the only Toyota my car is similar to is the Aristo in Japan, and it's only called a Toyota because there is no lexus in japan.
The design of many parts of these cars follow Toyotas from wayyyy back. If you have familarity with removing certain components, the knowledge carries over in most cases. Hooking your fingers under the clip position, push the cushon back and up and it comes out. Same technique in my '80 Celica too.

People should become aware of the fact that Toyota's are built better than Benz's, BMW's, Audi's, Jaguars, and other luxury nameplates. We have nothing to be ashamed of that a Lexus is built by Toyota. This only helps make them the best built cars in the world. We should reply to these comments with "well your Benz is nothing more than a fancy VW".
I don't mind that my car is made by Toyota. Hell... I'm very happy about it. Think about it... if a company has a huge R&D department from selling millions of cars all over the world, then their luxury department should have all that many more resources to make their cars even better in places where it counts and don't worry about the places that it doesn't count.
Regardless... anyone who's driven a GS4 or especially an LS4 and thinks that it's just a Camry with an "L" on the hood is flat-out nuts.
hell whats wrong with a camry anyways, its a toyota, that means its solid. That guy most likely drove an american pile. my es300 is a camry, but i dont care. Its still says LEXUS
