I just ordered an AlienWare Area-51 7700. It should be here around the end of January.
I do a lot of CAD and design work and plan to put this bad-boy to work.

I just got my new one a couple of days ago and am just starting to get it setup & data transferred. I looked at a bunch of makers and reviews including Falcon NW, Dell, Alienware, Maingear, Hypersonic and a couple of others and ended up getting a Velocity Micro. I took their "Gamer's Edge PCX" and bulked it up and saved some significant $$ compared to similar configurations on other brands. They have a higher-end Pentium Extreme watercooled box that I looked at, but when I added all the goodies I speced with my it was about $800 more.

3.6 ghz Pentium 4, 1mb cache
2 gb ram
74 gb Western Digital Raptor 10,000 RPM main HD (applications)
250 gb WD secondary HD (data, pics, video, etc)
256 mb ATI Radeon X800 XT PCI-Express (with cooling / overclock)
Soundblaster Audigy 2zs Platinum
12x DVD burner, 52x CD burner
550 Watt power

Retiring my 1.4 ghz HP which will soon become a Linux or BSD webserver in my GF's server farm, lol. My Velocity has three fans in the back and one in the front and it's still quieter than the HP by far.

Laptop is an IBM Thinkpad, great machines

Custom built for me. I managed to put together a budget computer when there was a big sale at Fry's electronics.

AMD Sempron 2800+ and ECS mobo combo $90
Western Digital 120GB HD $30 (after rebate)
Mushkin 512MB RAM $60
DVD-ROM Drive $30

Along with a few extra old comp stuff and other misc.
Western Digital 40GB HD
Geforce 2 64MB
Old CDR Burner and floppy drive
Old Sound Blaster card (forget which one)

Does the job and I'm not really a hardcore gamer. But probably looking to replace my vid card with an ATI Radeon 9800 PRO later on.

I've got a dell desktop (Dimension 8200)
A custom built gaming machine (Athlon 2800+ OC'd, 9800 Pro, RAID-0)

and SHARP AV-18 Laptop -- Basically a rebadged Averatec laptop (which got editor's choice from PC Magazine for best laptop under 1k)

guess you don't allow for multiple PCs, so I just said custom

I got a Dell Dimension "something" back in 2002. Still using it now....but it runs a lot slower now. I guess I DL too much garbage.

and all llight up in a nice blue color

all for under 900dollars wat a great deal i must say
