Honda turbos coming?
According to information posted to a popular Honda enthusiast Web site, honda-acura.net, the automaker plans to bring its first-ever turbocharged engine to the U.S. for model year 2006 or 2007. The 2.4-liter four would be fitted into either the Acura TSX or a new high-performance Civic model that would slot above the Si. The engine would be of a new design - not that of the 2.4 currently used in several U.S. products including the best-selling Accord - and would probably make about 240 hp. The next-generation Honda Civic Si will have either a 2.0-liter or 2.4-liter four, with standard horsepower boosted to around 200 hp in either form. Honda has already announced that it will offer a version of variable cylinder management system on a redesigned Pilot due this fall, and it will also offer a revamped engine lineup, including hybrid offerings, on Civic models, which will be all-new for '06.

i really doubt that honda will be making FI engines. they have been making awesome N/A motors ,and 240hps from turbo 2.4L is not too great these days. they dont have to FI the 2.4L motor to make 240hps. the new RSX-S 2.0L makes 210hps already.
honda needs to develope a new platform for RWD before boosting their engines.IMHO

The next Civic has to make a big splash, the last one made a small splash.
The only reason I think it might not happen, from my understanding, Honda for the time, is dropping all its sports cars, for more profitable SUVs and trucks.

Well, before you guys get too excited about 240 HP from a Turbo Honda 4, consider that Honda already sells...and has for years......a 240 HP normally aspirated 2.2 L 4 in the S2000, although that peak HP is at an insane 7800 RPM and the rather mediocre 162 ft-lb of torque is at 6500 RPM. The older S2000 engine had the same 240 HP peak at an even more insane 8600 RPM and the torque peak at 7800.

Honda is, first and foremost, an engine company. They know the stuff best. They haven't had much experience with production automobile turbos, but I'm sure this one will be excellent.
I'm betting that motor will find it's way into that new Acura SUV, RDX or whatever it is, or the next TSX (with some form of SH-AWD) or maybe even the RSX.
The next Civic better rock, because the current one has kinda sucked, especially the Si. None of the Civic variants have been winning many comparos.
I do find it interesting and impressive that they will design completely new 2.0L and 2.4L motors, considering they have good ones currently.
I'm betting that motor will find it's way into that new Acura SUV, RDX or whatever it is, or the next TSX (with some form of SH-AWD) or maybe even the RSX.
The next Civic better rock, because the current one has kinda sucked, especially the Si. None of the Civic variants have been winning many comparos.

The present CR-V and Element were the first production Hondas to get a four-banger with torque (162) that equalled or exceeded HP (160).

Again, when we post positive comments, its like they never existed.I agree, they make some of the best I-4 (if not the best) and V-6 efficient engines.
MMarshall, I am assuming the 2.2 in the S2000 is not something they would or can produce in much more numbers. But that would be awesome if they dump that.
But what is weird, they have the perfectly ravishing Intergra 220hp Type-R (which has gotten rave reviews) and they won't bring it here
Just bring that, the NSX-R to start.

Finially Honda might bring its turbocharged engine's to the US. They did have a few production turbocharged engines, but they never made it to the US. Many don't remember but they even had a turbocharged Legend Sedan back in the late 80s. I know for a fact that Honda has developed and tested turbocharged and supercharged engines for past production vehicles but they always decided to stick to NA for the final version. I know early talk was for reliability reasons (FI engines usually don't last 200K miles without a rebuild back in the day) but I guess FI technology has gotten a lot better that long term reliability is really not a big problem anymore.
