Arrow Porsche Panamera Official Thread (update-hybrid debuts)

Porsche is to bring out a four-door GT with V8 and V10-Motor in 2009 under the model name Panamera .
The concept will be presented by autumn at the IAA to the public.
After Cayman for the Boxster Coupé (debut on the IAA in the autumn) now Panamera for the fourth Porsche line.
The Stuttgart sportscar manufacturers protected both names on the same day (15.1.2004) at the German patent office.
At the latest by autumn this year Porsche wants to present its concept for the fourth line.
The most important first in brief:
It's a four-door and four-seated front engine car with rear- and all-wheel drive, V8 and V10-engines with a range from 340 to over 600 PS.
The prices are to be settled between 100.000 and 150.000 €.
Annually 20,000 units are focused.
The assembly in Leipzig is to begin 2009.

Wow, this is HUGE news. Thanks for sharing. There were prototypes of a 4-door 996 but it never made production.

Thumbs up

That's really hot, but the fact that they're giving it a name is not. Why don't they just stick to numbers instead of ghey names?

Well.. they all HAVE names...

I like it. Very nice flowing body. Doesn't look like a sedan.

Oh lord no. Is Porsche really becoming THIS affected by the rest of the market? An SUV followed by a front engine sedan...? I heard Ferrarri has a station wagon coming out.

I like it. I'm all for car companies building whatever they want as long as it functions well in its class and performs well. If Ferrari can build a front engine car along side their mid engines I have no problem with Porsche building a front engine car as well. 4-doors will take getting used to and I think it looks more Ferrari than Porshe anyway. If I had to guess without knowing who built it I would have said Ferrari.

I think the posted pic is definately a chop, so we probably won't see pics resembling anything close to the real car in a while yet.

It's not that they WANT to. They HAVE to makes SUVs and sedans if they want to be profitable and not be bought out by a larger company.

If memory serves me correctly Porsche is a publicaly traded company but with a majority of the shares still within the family. So, yes it makes sense to want to diversify their product lines, but at what cost? Their manufacturing plants may have neither the capacity nor the quality control to sustain such an ambitious task. In addiiton, the dilution of the product line may tarnish the marque because of decline in quality. As we all know, quality is something that manufacturers strive for; otherwise, the Lexus marque would be nothing more than an anomaly.

I honestly would prefer them to stay a small company and focus on what they know best...racing. I would sincerely like to see Porsche get back into F1. The introduction of the latest vehicles leaves me wondering if this company knows where it is heading. The Cayenne was an abomonation which sold predominantely in North America (only shows that certain ppl have no sense of taste). The Cayman and Boxster I suspect will be fighting for the same market share and taking away from their bread and butter 911. Now this abomination of a "sedan" or will it be a "4 door coupe"...

Ahh..as they say..If you build it...someone is bound to buy it...I mean even the Aztec sold.

Sorry for the rant....I think Porsche has finally jumped the shark
