That may change in the future now that we are starting to get Lexus AWD sedans, altough the GS AWD is pricey and may or may not sell in the RX's numbers.....see my write-up on it here in CAR CHAT.
got an es for a loaner last month. that car is not deserving of the lexus badge. my 04 tl was twice as good as that car.
although i'm not a fan of the current ES design, i wouldn't go as far as saying its not worthy of the lexy badge. i too have gotten the current ES as a loaner and i think its niche as an entry level luxury sedan is well suited.
TL is just an upscale Honda, Acura does not even register as Luxury to me, ES needs a step up, 1 to compete with the Avalon and 2 to compete with the TL.
The ES and TL are the only fwd luxury sedans left, no more Infiniti I35 or am I missing something
True, the TL is an upscale Accord, but in the same vein, the ES is an upscale Camry. Nothing wrong with either, as the Accord and Camry are great cars.
Although both the TL and ES are FWD, the TL is a MUCH better handling and sportier car than the ES. For example, many people would cross-shop the TL with the G35, but few will cross-shop between an ES and the G35.
Looks like the RX will be the best selling Lexus for years and years and years to come. I don't see any other Lexuses down the pipeline that will dethrone it.

I like both cars like you mentioned, they both serve different purposes right now, the ES is catering to a much older crowd where the TL is younger hipper, sportier.
I realized how slow my ES was when I came off a light and a new TL passed me and I was going WOT and the guy looked to be just cruisen along playing with his cell phone drinking his coffee
Acura is Luxury car no doubt but look at the Japanese RL or TL, I never realized the car had a Honda badge on it not an Acura badge of course it's in Japan, it's the stupid H and A, looks like someone just pushed the top of the H together and got the A
