Honda FCX fuel-cell car..it's coming.
Perhaps some of Honda's past mistakes can be forgiven considering the outstanding work they have done with fuel-cell technology where compressed hydrogen powers an electric motor.
We have often argued diesels vs. hybrids in these forums but if this technlogy can be perfected it may be better than either of them.
Other manufacturers, of course, are also working on fuel-cell technology, but, as usual, Honda seems to be clearly ahead of them....some work, though, still needs to be done. The main operating problem seems to be starting in extremely cold temperatures....they are now certified only down to -4F. Hydrogen filling stations, of course, are also quite sparse at the present time.
Honda FCX fuel-cell cars are now being leased to select customers across the country and being tested by auto magazines. AUTOWEEK has what is probably the best test of one...at at temperatures down to 5F in March snows in Michigan....but unfortunately they don't have it on their web site yet....you can read it in the April 4 issue.
Meanwhile.....until the better AUTOWEEK test can be posted, I have posted this from MOTOR TREND:
