This was one of the toughest categories to settle. The ES 330 has excellent crash-test scores, but so does the Acura TL--and the TL has happier owners than the Lexus. But, the Lexus has a higher Consumer Reports' predicted reliability rating than the TL (as does the Infiniti G35 and Subaru Impreza WRX STi, which would have been our pick, were performance the sole criterion). And what gave the Lexus a decisive advantage over the others was its superior residual value. It also happens to have world-beating comfort and is a joy to drive

But, consider that Consumer Reports predicts a new 5 Series will have poor reliability, whereas a new Lexus GS will have very good reliability. Like the BMW, the GS also has very good owner satisfaction. In terms of other competitors, the Jaguar S-Type is also plagued with reliability problems, and an entry-level Cadillac STS is pound-for-pound about as capable and luxurious as a Toyota Avalon, which costs $15,000 less.

The model line that put Lexus on the luxury map is still one of the world's most desirable automobiles--and a bargain compared to such competitors as the Jaguar XJ, Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Audi A8. The LS 430 has excellent reliability, owner satisfaction and residual value. It beats the also outstanding Infiniti Q45 in all three of those categories--and the Mercedes E-Class, which has had a major recall in the 2005 model year.

Nice...although technically speaking the GS shouldn't be there since it is a 2006 model.
Also, they dogged the S-Class and E-Class because of their poor reliability rankings, but the 7-Series, which is just as unreliable, got chosen in the list?
