What ever happened to LEXUS LINK?

I don't think it is on the new GS, is it?

What happened?

It's still there. Just not heavily marketed anymore since it's a licensed service from GM's On Star.

That's not necessarily a bad thing, either. Bashing GM (like M-B), has become popular lately but the fact is that GM's On-Star is an excellent system and is clearly one of the things that the company does best.

We tried it for a couple years back in 2001, but there was no value in it. Lexus Link cost about $1,000 for the system itself and then customers had to pay a monthly service charge, I think it was about $400 per year. There was no value for it because our cars hardly ever break down! It's a good feature for GM and Mercedes, etc...but not for Lexus. ;)

It was very popular with Cadillac owners...especially DeVilles....because the advanced age of many DeVille drivers makes them vulnerable in many accidents, and the On-Star system would automatically summon the nearet police, fire / ambulance, and towing services if the occupants in the car were knocked unconscious in an impact. That, of course, can happen in any car.......a Lexus as well.

Granted, though......the chances of a Lexus having a mechanical breakdown on the road are MUCH less than with a Cadillac. I agree with you there.

that's how i see it as well, it's pretty stupid... when they offered it on the acura since 03 (onstar), i said that's one thing that i wouldn't care for sure...

and the fact that you get first yr FREE but crap load of money thereafter? what is it?! you don't see people paying 2k upgrade for nav and pay money every yr for "subscription"
