Spy Shot: Porsche 911 Turbo
Our spies at the legendary Nurburgring road circuit caught up with the sensational new Porsche 911 (997) Turbo undergoing punishing trials in coupe and cabriolet form. Porsche tried to put snoops off the scent by making the car's nose look like the previous-generation Turbo (996), but it is clear that this is the Stuttgart maker's next supercar slayer. GermanCarFans.com reports that the next Turbo will sport 460bhp and go on sale in the UK in spring 2006. GermanCarFans also suggests that the new car's improved underbody aerodynamics and more efficient bi-plane style rear wing should result in a top speed well in excess of the current car's 191mph, although 4Car wonders for whom 191mph is not sufficiently swift. The Turbo will also adopt a new four-wheel drive system that allows power to be fed to the individual wheel with the most grip, handy when you've got an awesome 460lb ft of torque (twisting power) to call upon. Expect the price to be in the region of £90,000

Oh man, I cant wait to see this car without all the masking. I already think the 911S looks good as hell, this will more than likely look better. Lovin that huge door lenght cooling duct on the rear fender.
460hp?? Doesnt the current 911 Turbo make 450-460hp?? Or am I thinking of the X50 or Turbo S model??
weird, the front headlights look like the 996?
but i definitely want to see that car, especially seeing how good the 997s is :)

I believe the current 911 Turbo has about 415 HP and about 415 lb/ft of torque.

You must be too concentrated on the pics ;) :)

Ya think he got to over 25K posts by actually READING threads before posting? :D
1SICKLEX 04-13-05, 11:01 PM Nice thread. But the usual
1. Fatter rear
2. Bigger tires
3. Additional vents for cooling
4. Bigger wing
And its STILL fantastic. We need a Porsche sub-forum :D

sometimes going with basic is the best solution :)
This car is going to be a very useable monster.
XeroK00L 04-14-05, 02:57 PM This is awesome and all but just out of curiosity, why is there no one complaining about it becoming AWD, losing the RWD "fun factor" and all that? ;)
Edit: Hmm didn't notice that the Turbo has been AWD for quite a while. :egads:

What "fun factor" you are we talking about?
Burnouts?
Evo’s and Sti’s are fun cars, so are Lambo’s. I think that AWD is a great advantage of a 911TT. May be it’s not the best track car out there, but even a regular driver can have fun in this car and stay safe unlike GT3 or GT2 for example.
911 TT and TT-S are alread AWD..the GT2 is rear-wheel drive
I wonder if they have upgraded the AWD to this car bc the older version IMO was pretty archane.
That car looks better then sex....
bah... too bad its totally unatainable for me. :-(

Yeah, its been AWD since the 993 Turbo. The car has recieved every accolade possible and is considered the everyday supercar. AWD helped make that happen.
If you want the true RWD experience, you can get the GT-2, which is a turbo without the AWD and other electronic gizmos. But that car has been called one of the scariest drives on the planet (scary in a good way). :)
KneeShoe00 04-15-05, 11:36 AM that car is sexy
but not as sexy as
the
993 911 Turbo S
period.

yeah the gt2 is defintely scary to drive, and it's not easy to drive at all i suppose. that much power, all the in the heavy rear 911. and the power number is just amazing.
i agree that the awd helps to make the 911 turbo a lot easier to drive and really a daily supercar out there, can go head to head with some exotic but more "practical"
though between the gt3 and the gt2, from what i read, people actually prefer the gt3 for its performance, less power but lighter, and it's a more preferred track car from what i read too
