I think the QX56 is one of the top 3 ugliest cars available, and its reliability has been not-so-good. The LX is classic, I'd get one in an instant if I could afford it. Not to mention the Landcruiser's legendary offroad capabilities.

If you need to tow a LOT then the QX56 unquestionably beats the LX470 for good (8900 lbs. vs. 5000 lbs.). As far as "comfortablilty" goes, however, I don't think you can do much if at all better than the LX470 with the QX56. The fit-and-finish and the quality of the materials (http://motortrend.com/roadtests/suv/112_0407_heart/index3.html) used in the QX56 is simply a far cry from the LX470. The reliability stats (http://www.nissanhelp.com/News/Nissan%20Plant.htm) don't look good for the QX56 either. And as long as you don't race in your SUV, the LX470 has more than enough power to make day-to-day driving feel very easy and light at foot.

2. Lexus LX 470

Sure the extra power, but reliability of the QX56 is a luxury brand's nightmare. :thumbdn:

The QX56 may have power which sure is a  , but have you seen the interior it looks horrible it looks cheaper than even the Escalade. The Lexus LX on the other hand maybe smaller but far more luxurious the reliability will more than likely be better. The interior of the LX is beautiful for an SUV even though it's a old design. The LX may seem weak on paper but I believe it's more than capable also considering the fact that it beat newer models like the Navigator and QX56. LX 470 for me... :woot:

Well first off, I would probably consider a Land Cruiser over the LX470. Second off, I'm betting that Infiniti has gotten its act together with regards to the QX reliability - so I would discount those who knock its reliability. Last but not least, go drive all of them and see which one you like best. Also ask about residuals (pretend you are leasing) - those are decent indications of the resale of the vehicles and should play a part in your decision should you decide to keep the car 4 years or less.
PS - the comment about the Escalade interior being nicer than the QX was funny.

I would discount those who are only betting on a company getting it's act together. That's only personal assumption as opposed to true facts. Perhaps they've changed, but there is history there of poor quality issues and cheap looking materials. On the other hand, the LX is built on a proven chassis/platform unlike it's cross town rival.
You should drive both to see which one really suits your needs. Drive it 2 or more times just to be sure. Why do you need to have more horsepower in an SUV anyway? It's not like you will be drag racing the mad mom in a minivan to the grocery store in the lane next to you. There are much better choices out there, the QX isn't one of them to be honest.

I'd rather get a STD than a QX56. We've discussed in the past, its basically a Japanese Escalade, which doesn't mean much. Poor interior, poor ride, poor quality, but you get a big new exterior, a nice engine (its one very strong point) and it's built in Mississippi. The truck has had problems galore.
Car and Driver tested it against 4 other SUVs and it finished behind the LX 470 and Range Rover. Power is NOT everything.

The QX is so ugly to me i was convinced it was a bad photoshop when I first saw it online. But hey looks are subjective. Yes the LX is dated and slow but one fine piece of machinery, its hands down one of the most comfortable SUV's on the market.
I'd have to ask though what will be your primary need, people hauler / towing / road trips / off roading? Depending on your needs you may need something more than what the LX or the QX can provide.
Just go and test drive them.
One more thing, yes the LX does need more power, no not racing power, but enough power get up hills with less effort, enough power to tow going up hill etc. I live in the hills and this is where I really feel a lack of, one of the reasons I'm in my GS more times than not other than gas. The LX is big and heavy it need more power period, not a whole lot but more than what it is currently thats for dang sure.

Well it might as well be called a STD. As we all know, one of the main reasons people buy Japanese branded cars is for top reliability. If a Japanese luxury manufacter has average or sub-par quality, I will take the European or American equivilent any day of the week. Might as well get the Escalade, IMO, same shoddy interior, I would think better quality and at least some prestige of owning an "Escalade".
The LX at this point, yes is underpowered, but its the absolutely best built SUV in the market and arguably the most luxurious. One step inside is all you need after you close that door and hear THUNK.
And as Milla... stated, the thig is ugly. Its not striking, its not different, its just plain ol BIG AND UGLY.

QX56 vs Imperial AT-AT
I am still chuckling...
But, with our love with SUVs, the QX56 is selling well I believe, with 1,500 units or more a month. So to Infiniti's credit, they added they're version and are getting some share.

I agree with just about all of the posts here.....if you are not towing heavy stuff, buy the LX470 and just drive a little slower. You may not have a dragster but you will be rewarded with what will probably be a much more reliable vehicle.
And.....it's one thing to have several hundred HP and ft.-lbs of torque in a low-center of gravity sports car that is designed for handling, but in a tall, unstable, tippy SUV that is quite another matter. True, you want torque in a large SUV , but for towing, not for speeding or acceleration.

Well then there you have it, whats holding you back? Truely not this forum.
Sounds to me though an Escalade would be right up your alley, major power to pop thoes hills and enough room under those wheel wells to fit 26's if you wish, I personally would go with it rather than a QX56.

You're intention to buy an SUV is to put 22's on them? That defeats the purpose of buying an SUV of that price. But that's entirely up to you. If you really want an SUV to sport 22's, get an Escalade. The LX470 is plenty powerful to make it up those hills in Austin even with a load of people or heavy rims. Hill Country in Texas is nothing to the hills and mountains we have here in CA.

do u think a lx470 on 22 would be good for the steep hills in austin if so i would rather get the lx470
I remember that the lexus always has been a reliable car so i always want a lexus over any other car in a heart beat also how about a supercharged lx470

If it's power you're looking for, you should look into the GX470. 270hp V8. Same V8 as the LX but w/VVT-i giving it the extra 35 HP. You should go test drive both of them.
