Guys,
I bought a G6 powershot and I am not getting pictures anywhere near as crisp as I wanted or expected. I have been taking pictures for years with a 35mm so I know it is not my picture taking ability.
I ended up getting a bigger memory card to try that and it helped but not a great deal.
I have been shooting with the camera on auto.
I have the resolution at its highest setting at 3072x2304 and I have it on superfine. What is the problem? Here is a picture to show you what I am talking about.

Looking at the file info, it says the shutter was "1/1244 s" If that's true that's INCREDIBLY FAST which probably meant (in order to get it light enough) you had the ISO setting cranked. What ISO setting do you have it on?
You'd be better off at 1/60th second and F/8 - bet your picture would have LOADS less noise in it.
Hope that helps.

Hey man,
I have it on auto so the shutter speed/F-stop have not been chosen by me - they are automatically set by the camera. That's why this confuses me??

TURN DOWN THAT NOISE! :D
Your shots have regressed back to before, in the car shots they looked great. The shutter speed is definately off the meter. since you have been taking pics for years and years, why not use manual mode?

B,
The manual mode is fine for me. But one of the reasons I was able to talk my girl into letting me get it was because she could use it for point and shoot. She knows nothing about cameras so adjusting shutter speeds/aperture etc is not something she can do.
I have been trying to teach her how to use the camera - but with these shots it is not progressing too fast :uh:

It still shouldn't shoot so fast in auto mode. I know for a fact you can plug the camera into the computer, open the zoombrowser, and readjust EVERYTHING in that camera, including auto mode preferences.

I still think you have an ISO setting too high somehow, but I could be wrong. No way pics in daylight from a G6 should have that much noise.

I took the noise out of your pic... not perfect, and it shouldn't be there to begin with but a lot can be done to salvage pictures.

My father has the same camera, the pictures should be very clear. It's hard to think that the "auto" setting wouldn't be fully auto. I wonder if something is wrong with the camera at this point.
Here is a cropped down picture that I took with a g6.
