Japanese IS test-driven in real life plus the 350hp GS350!!!
Came across a report of an early IS test-drive at Fuji Speedway internally for the Lexus employees and the writer of the article, who was invited by Lexus. In the pictures you can see the spacious and luxurious settings of the Lexus dealership at Japan. The IS in the picture also has the new wheel style shown in the latest Best Car magazine.
What's astonishing is the leaked information of the upcoming GS350 to be released in Japan in August. It is tuned for "350 or more horsepower"!!! Effectively more than 100hp/L!! Now that's impressive.
P.S. Can't decide if this should be posted in the 2IS or 3GS forum. Mods please feel free to move this thread to an appropriate forum if you see the need, thanks.

Uhhh Damn!! I find this to quite interesting. Dont know if I should believe this, and it might in some Japanese measuring system(whatever they use, or whatever they call it) for the HP claim.
So hypothetically thinking, say that this new 3.5L in the new GS and IS does produce 350hp?? Then what in the heck will the 4.6L V8 produce?? 420hp?? OOOOOOO.....that would be nice.

I think the article means that only the GS350 is receiving this ultimate power tuning. The IS350's horsepower rating, not mentioned in the article, should still be around 315hp.
Japanese horsepower = 1ps = 0.9863hp. So even if the 350 figure was in ps it would translate to around 345hp, not bad either.
IF the GS 350 has 350hp (what a coincidence) I will wear a dress to the zoo and go bone the oldest Chimpanzee they have....
I love the thread but I cannot believe that. That would be a 100hp jump from the GS 300.
Then what on EARTH would the 460 have? Over 400hp? (as previously stated)
Just the thought of this thread has me wanting to give the girlfriend a good "rodgering".....

Yeah werd. But what I find interestting is as the months go by we keep hearing higher and higher Hp numbers. We started at 280, then 300, 315, 325, now we hear 350. WHOA!! Whats the deal. It starts to get funny after a while.
I too doubt the 350 number. There is no need for that kind of power now from a v-6 in a small sedan or coupe. 300 is about the max hp what v-6 engines are putting out from competitors and most are around 220, 240, 270, and 280. That would max out the capability of a NA aluminum v-6 with little or no room for horsepower upgrades down the line and the fuel economy would be terrible. That is a 135hp jump over the last IS and new base IS. Unless they are testing the engine for a Supra replacement or a more potent M or AMG competetor in that chasis which then that hp would be needed for a high performance sports car I doubt the IS350 will be putting out that kind of horsepower. I say it will put out 305-315hp if the IS300 makes 300+ horsepower like everyone is speculating.

It's not speculating, it's official from Lexus that IS350 will have more than 300 hp, but no exact figures announced yet . . .

you want to be careful, mike, you never know.... i don't want to see you in dress for sure
350 with 350hp that's not easy, but we know toyota is capable of that. and with the is350 pushing around 320hp, somehow i just think toyota has discovered something and they are very confident. so the new gs350 with 350 i would be very happy. and i can only imagine the power on the gs460

Well, if it's really true(which I doubt), some of those who bought the GS300 & 430 won't be too happy, since the hp increase is so big . . .

And too ad to that what would be the point of the GS430?
