Default 300 SRT-8 and CTS-V finish 1 and 2 in the Speed Mag (R&T) Comparo. GS430 places 4th.

Americans rejoice!

SPEED Magazine (Run by R&T) Comparo (0-60):

1) 300 SRT-8 (4.8s)
2) CTS-V (4.9s)
3) 545i 6 Speed (5.5s)
4) GS430 (5.7s)
5) A6 4.2 (6.1s)
6) M45 Sport (5.3s)

I don't remember what they wrote in depth, but they loved the American cars obviously.

They liked how the GS drove and gushed about the Levinson, cooling seats, rearview camera, active cruise, and available PCS. I don't remember them criticizing VDIM like some other reviews. In fact, they may have praised it, but I can't remember for sure. They also said that the GS430 accelerated very well even though it had the lowest horsepower rating. It was the most expensive car in the test.

They almost apologized for placing the M45 6th, saying that it is an "awesome car". But they did not like the way it drove or the transmission, contrary to most other reviews. I'm pretty sure that they tested the same stripper pre-production M45 Sport that Infiniti has been sending around. They didn't even mention that the Infiniti has cooling seats or rearview camera, or that it has available active cruise and 5.1 sound system. Also, they hated the placement of the controls on the M, implying that it's worse than i-drive...

Anyways, good job Americans. There are so many nice choices in this price range. The consumers are the ultimate winners.

Only the CTS-V & SRT-8 versions can achieve those times lol, not the regular versions.
IMO these 2 cars are not even in the same class as the rest & should not even be compared together. Also the 6MT on the 545i always give them an advantage in comparisons, but kudos to bimmer for offering it Any scans available ? I know the article is not online yet : www.spdmag.com

That's why I want to see a scan to see the specs. but I don't think how well equipped the cars makes a significant difference for these tests anyway, they don't base their rankings on luxury items, but mostly on performance & handling.

Kudos to Caddy and Chrysler, this is a very different comparo and I like it. I think the GS placing 4th says tons, its not a special edition like the 1st 2 and I've been saying since day 1, the MANUAL 545 is the ONLY true sports sedan, since its the only one that offers a manual.

R&T glazed over the M its first drive (I remember, fanboys were jumping the bandwagon left and right) so this is actually their 2nd time with it and like Automobile, the sum of its parts leave a less gratifying experience (but its still an awesome car).

This is a nice different comparo and I applaud R&T for offering a different comparo in a GOOD way

(its also funny when the M places low, like in this mag or in Automobile, its all hush hush, people don't post the same posts all over the net and they act like it never happened but when the M places high, fanboys rejoice like its the 2nd coming of Christ and the news gets spread like herpes from Ron Mexico). Pathetic

The R&T review was done by a different person from the SPEED testers. It's not as if the same people got the car for the "2nd time" and changed their mind. Obviously, the R&T tester felt very differently from the Speed testers. BTW, the R&T review was FAR more in depth than the Speed review, so I wouldn't say that they "glazed" over it. There are a TON of published reviews that really speak highly of the M, much more than the few negative reviews, so I don't think any M owners are worried that this is a trend.

If I remember correctly, I broke the C&D, Automobile, and now Speed comparos here on CL. I think it's more a matter of people having argued to death about the first "big" comparo (C&D), and there's really not much more to say. People who're interested in these cars already have their preferences in this segment and a few comparos are not going to change that. At this point, the comparos are mainly useful to see what kind of test numbers the cars got.

Also, here on CL, I think the main two "instigators" (I think psteng and liquidblue or something like that) got banned. So no one to "rile" up the Lexus boys into action any more.

Yeah, things are a lot tamer now. Kinda boring without the big arguments about "my car is better than yours," "my dad can beat up your dad," "my ***** is smaller than yours" type arguments.

I'd like to know more about the performance results, specifically the CTS-V vs the SRT-8 because I thought the SRT would be significantly better than the CTS but as we all know, 0-60 isn't the deciding factor.

Seriously though, the GS seems so out of place there! Couldn't have an STS because the CTS was already in, but why not the E class? There's not nearly enough crossover between the E and the SRT to explain why. The GS is firstly a luxury car and frankly, with this type of crowd, I'm surprised it did as well as it did. If anyone has any scans, please post em up!

Infiniti doesn't do anything for me, and Nissan left a bad taste in my mouth...

Sorry for replying to such an old post. I noticed that the 545I as being the only true sport sedan because it's the only one with a manual. I believe the CTS-V has a tremec 6 speed transmission.

Wow the GS is not to far off from the 545I 6 speed. If the Gs lost a little weight, it would be a little quicker. Toss out the spare tire.

Give props to the Caddillac and Chrysler's achievements, but in comparison look how much the Domestic needs in order to pump out 0-60 time/km to beat their rivals. As for the rivlas, if they had just as much hps' they would have done much better times than the domestics, especially the GS430....
