Very interesting read to say the least.:)

The ranking is as follows:
1. 2005 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
2. 2005 Porsche Boxster S
3. 2005 Porsche Carrera S Couope
4. 2005 Lotus Elise
5. 2005 Honda S2000
6. 2005 Dodge Viper SRT-10
7. 2004 BMW Z4 3.0i
8. 2005 Nissan 350Z 35th Anniversary Edition
9. 2005 Mercedes-Benz SLK350
Funny how the Corvette won but nobody picks it as his personal favorite.

Price independent, the Corvette is placed third, with the Porsche Carrera at the top, & Boxster second, so maybe not that surprising that nobody picked the Corvette as personal favourite. Corvette came out on top only after the price-dependent points adjustment.
Personally, Carrera S will still be my top pick among those cars.
I think there also has been a thread about this comparison before here, but the online link is not out yet then.

However, the fact that the vette was the fastest around the laps and that it beats the two Porsche's in driving excitement, the two most important criteria for a sports car IMO, mean that it is still one heck of a true sports car to be reckoned with.
But yeah, owning a Porsche just sounds so much cooler. ;)

For the price, the Vette cannot be touched. The 350Z barely beat the SLK out by less than a point I think, yet a few issues ago, they were loving the car in another road course comparison.
Yes, 911S for me though. The Euro mags have the same findings (no vette included though) the top cars are the Porsches and Lotus

For pure bang for the buck, though, it will be interesting to see how the upcoming Shelby Mustang GT500 stacks up with its 450 and possibly 500 HP engine and list price in the low 40's. ( I remember the original one from my junior-high and high school days). However, the live rear axle (only SVT Mustangs get the IRS), cheap construction common to all Mustangs, inevitable dealer markups, and the fact that it is a pony car rather than a true sports car may work against it.

we're all agreed... the corvette is untouchable if price is a point... its always been the bargain basement supercar... but as all have said the 911s would do it for me....
