Default What do you think of the new BMW 3 Series?

I saw a new 3 series on the way home from work. Didn't really see the version it was . I was just in awe to see how ugly the rear looked to this car. Almost had that odd rear end look of the new Infiniti M, and the taillight design is something else. Leave it to Bangle for these wonderful designs. The front almost looked Mitsubishi Evo to me at a glance in the rearview mirror. I guess i need to drive and see this car in different colors to really appreciate it. I'm actually a big fan of the E46 and E36, i dunno about this new one.

Here's what I saw on my commute this afternoon here in SoCal on the 91 Freeway headed east. (Please excuse the quality...camera phone)

Saw one on the 10 in Santa Monica this afternoon. Thought it was a Civic at first from far back...the driver caught me checkin' it out as he was getting off the freeway...too bad I wasn't looking out of awe and admiration. I'd have to agree with both of you guys, the front is "ok" in my book, but I still prefer the looks of the E46 over the new 3. The pics of the coupe and convertible look much better than the sedan.

I also saw a white one coming home and immediately knew it was the new 3 b/c of the "weird" back. The front is ok, but nothing like the former 3

I like the looks of the E46 more, but once you get inside and drive it (and ignore the interior) then all else is almost forgotten.

It's alright; I'd still rather have a new IS!

Over all I like it. The front end is nice, and the rear will take a little while to get used to, but I don't think it is ugly at all. It seems like the questionable rear ends are a trend with new cars. The RL has a great front end IMHO, but the rear end has some odd angles. Same with the new GS and IS. The fronts are great, but the rear has their own problems at certain angles. Style wise I don't thing anyone IMHO can come out with the perfect design to please everyone especially myself, but it's been a while since I've seen an almost perfect car brought out for the mainstream consumer.

We had a brand-new 3-series stop by at our meet in Brooklyn last Sunday, just for display and for test drives (selected by raffle). I took a couple pics, and from what I observed, the new 3 doesn't look too bad on the front and rear. I still prefer the current version

Oh, and the new M45 and GS300 AWD were available as well

I' ve sat in one in the Vancouver Autoshow, don't like the interior but the seats are good. The front & side profile are OK, but those taillights are ugly. Haven't driven it yet, but I'm sure it'll be impressive. As for the coupe version, I almost always prefer them over the sedan for any model.

MUNICH -- U.S. orders for German luxury carmaker BMW's new 3-series car have got off to a better-than-expected start, Chief Financial Officer Stefan Krause told Reuters on Monday.

"The pre-launch orders are very, very good, far above expectations," he said on the sidelines of an industry conference. He did not give any concrete numbers.

The new 3 series -- BMW's top-selling model which has also beaten expectations in Europe since its launch in early March -- hits the U.S. market on May 6.

Krause reiterated BMW's target of boosting 2005 unit sales by 6 percent to 9 percent.

He said BMW remained positive about the U.S. market despite the sluggish sales from domestic heavyweights General Motors and Ford Motor Co.

"There is still enormous potential in the United States," he said, noting that BMW was not affected by the "American problems" weighing on GM and Ford such as health care and pension liabilities and Standard & Poor's downgrades of their debt to junk status.

He also suggested the premium segment of the overall U.S. car market was relatively underdeveloped and thus had upside potential.

The U.S. market is BMW's biggest, accounting for around a quarter of car sales. BMW is more than 50 percent hedged against its dollar exposure this year.

Krause said there was no target on how much to boost this level, adding it was continually making tactical hedging transactions but eschewing long-term strategic hedges given the unfavurable euro-dollar exchange rate at present.

the interior i definitely can cre less for. it's just bad.... the seats i am not surprised, bmw always have some very supportive seats, though mostly on the stiff side

and yes, again, the rear is just awkward
