Cross Country Car Transport
I would like to vacation on the West Coast with my car. I do not have any desire to drive an SC430 cross country from Virginia. Does anyone have experience with shipping their car both ways from one coast to the other? I am interested in how it was done and the costs. In the past year of exploring this no transporter would respond to me without specific dates. I did get an automated response from a site that I seem to remember was associated with Federal Express. The figures were something like $1,600 for an open car carrier and $2,400 for an enclosed carrier. Quote was one way. That would be $3,200-$4,800 round trip I guess. Too expensive for me. Any thoughts on open vs. closed?

Depending on where you are going to be here on the west coast you might be better off renting an SC or something a little more exotic. There are a number of places that cater to high end car nuts out here.
But, if you still want to do it, I moved from New Jersey to California last year and the covered transport company that moved my LX470 and Saab 9-3 was DeMoise Trk-Ing, 864-609-9390. My driver was RICH in truck #101. He did a fantastic job and was very careful. If I remember right it was about 10 days from coast to coast.
Depending on your exact from and to locations where the prices you are estimating are about right.
