On Ebay...

I bought some of the black pearl chrome emblems for my SC400 from a guy on ebay (Ebay ID hk-plus)... I was a little worried about buying from a guy out of Hong Kong but he had good feedback and so I bought them... They were shipped to me fast and looked great and I gave a good feedback on ebay... This was about a month ago and last week I noticed the black pearl was starting to turn color and in some spots completely gone and gold showing underneath... This is w/o me washing or waxing and the only thing that could of affected it was the heavy rains here in Georgia that we had the week after I put them on...

Maybe I just got the bad one of the bunch but I’ve sent the guy several emails last week and yesterday and as of today haven’t heard anything back... So buyers beware... I just wished I could go in and change my feedback... I guess now I am going to take the pieces of crap off and see if I can get them black powder coated by someone local... I plan on taking some digital pictures so if anyone wants to see them email me at hoytinthesouth@hotmail.com

If you really want to change your feedback, you can edit it or do additional feedback. That sucks though...cheap little spraypainted emblems sounds like. Good luck with the powdercoating or whatever you decide to do.

i'd have to agree here. as long as they are prepped and primered correctly, spray paint should stay on for a while. i would prep, prim, couple coats of color, then a couple coats of clear and it should last. if you want it professionally done then just take them to a paint place and have them spray it with automotive paint.

I have the same set sitting in my garage. I wasnt sure if I should take off my old ones and put these on. Thanks for the feedback. I got my chrome rings for my front lights from him over 2 years ago and they are still cherry though.

Hey guys, I heard from my Lexus parts guy that Lexus has stopped making them in black because they appeared purple in sunlight, and got too many complaints form customers on them...

Say it isn't so! I love the look of the Black Pearl on Blizzard Pearl, it looks great! Mine never look purple. Are you sure they no longer make them?? When I was in for service a few weeks ago I asked them about the Black Pearl emblems and they said as far as they know they are still available.

I still havent heard from the guy and Ive made a point to send him a freindly reminder every day... But I figured maybe he needs a little incentive to e-mail me so I sent him an e-mail telling him that if he hasnt responded to me by tomorrow that I am going to start emailing everyone who bids on his emblems on ebay a description of mine and offering to send them a picture... Wonder if he will respond?

This was about a month ago and last week I noticed the black pearl was starting to turn color and in some spots completely gone and gold showing underneath...Hmm if he did paint the emblem himself I wonder why he chose to use a gold (hence more expensive) emblem to begin with. Or maybe that gold color is just another layer of paint, done when he originally intended to sell it as a gold emblem but nobody wanted it?:D

There are always scammers on eBay ruining our buying experience. Nothing much you can do.:( Just try to buy from sellers with the most positive feedbacks whenever possible...

actually, i just got some emblems from hk-plus also and had a friend picked them up for me in hong kong...the black chrome quality is crap and parts of it is already fading. I am planning to do a DIY project and spray paint these so that I won't have to mess with the OEM silver ones...

same here. Just picked them up from the Post Office. I guess you get what you pay for. I am going to DIY them black this weekend. Will post after pics :D

Follow up. Decided to go ahead and install them as is thinking that if I didn't like them I could take them off and repaint. Well, the signature rings true. The LEXUS emblem that he sent is Larger than the one I took off. You see, I didn't think I had to measure. I guess I was wrong. So now I have to remove the remaining adhesive and put the original emblem back on.
