Based on the monthly sales threads, and for my post whoring and your debating pleasure, here's my contribution... (Someone else can format the numbers if they want.)
Some of you may not agree with my placing of certain models into the different near, mid, and high lux groups, but my argument for that is size concerns, for the most part. I also took into account pricing and magazine comparo groupings.

i swear my dad predicted the Infiniti M situation; they'd sell in the very beginning and then flop.

Well, typically new models sell better in the beginning than after a few months, but I'd hardly call sales a flop yet.

Why do you say that? The sales don't seem to be decreasing from the numbers posted other than a little dip in May that was more than made up for in June?

Damn even in its last year(maybe second to last year) the LS430 is still outselling its main competition by 1,000 units. Pretty damn impressive.
Ummm....atleast there are people actually buying the Phateon about 70 per month. Still pretty bad, but what can ya do.
That CTS came out of no where last month. Nevermind, GM Employee Discount. I forgot. :D

So the new IS should be about mid-pack in that class, just under the C-class.

Yes, the new IS probably can't do much better than that without coupe & convertible versions like the 3 series.
BTW, I don't think some of the lists are valid comparisons between the brands because the sedan/coupe/convertible sales are lumped together & some brands do not offer the coupe/convertible versions.

I guess I could have separated out the sedans, but then some could argue that people may have purchased a 325i if the 325Ci weren't available, etc.

That could be possible in "some " cases, but without a 325ci, that person could have gone with a G35 coupe, but can't get a Lexus IS coupe since it does not exist.
If offering more variations won't increase overall sales substantially, why do you think the manufacturers would spend more to make more variations ? Making just one model will be economically more efficient than different variations if sales will remain the same or even close with just one.
Me for example, I' d never have bought a G35 sedan if the G35 coupe does not exist. ;)

I wouldn't be surprised to see the LS sell >3500 when the new model comes out.

The LS430 had sold 3000+ per month for some months last year even with the 2004 MY facelift/upgrades.

Well, then 4000+ is what I wouldn't be surprised at, happy? :p
And, Mr. Complainer, here's the best I could do with June 2005 figures for sedans only. Some of the companies don't break it down any more than the model headings, though.
If you complain about AWD variants being included, in addition to FWD/RWD offerings, I'm gonna find where you live and administer a can of whoopass. ;)

Thanx for your effort, but you' ve neglected the wagons which are included in some of your numbers :p Wait for aicautosite.com to upgrade their June/05 sales volume list, they do seperate out sedan/wagons/coupe/convertible versions. ;)

Yes, sadly, with the data I had, I could do no better.
I wonder where that site gets their info from. Directly from the manufacturers? If that's the case, why wouldn't they just release all that data to the public themselves? :uh:

The M sales have been increasing every month. I would hardly think that is a flop. Seems more like its gaining more sales the longer its out there since more people are seeing the car on the road and liking it.

It has? Looks flat to me. A gain of 20 cars a month is not even 1 per dealer. BUt clearly, the car is not a flop. And to say people are seeing the car on the road and liking it, we can say there are MORE people seeing it and not liking it since sales have not jumped at all, considering all the positive press it has gotten.

Yep, but the gains have been small though, except the dip in May. But all car sales dipped in May for some reason.
As for seeing it on the road, I think you gotta give it some time. There are only 10,000 of these going around in the U.S. right now. I've seen 2 M's on the road so far, and about 4 GS's.
In any case, I think overall the car has done pretty well, especially considering that the M has no repeat or off-the-lease buyers, unlike the other cars in this segment. Also, Infiniti receives very little "badge" recognition, so people are mainly buying it on the car's merits. MB, BMW, and Lexus have people buying their cars for the badge, and deservedly so.
Infiniti must think the car is selling well enough, they just raised the price of the M35 by $540. The price gap between a comparably equipped M35 and a GS300 has narrowed to about $1500 to $2000.

As it has been discussed in many previous threads, the M is selling well. Its not gaining huge numbers because people dont recognize the M45 name as they do the GS, E, and 5. Its still selling better than the RL and Audi which is good. It is selling better than expected. I belive the number infiniti was aiming for was 20k a year. With over 2k selling a month, it will sell beyond expected. So enough with your smart a** comments about the M.

I think it should be clear that this is a Lexus biased forum. It's explained time and time again and it should be expected. If you don't like the comments made here or like what a person has to say about the competition (Lexus vs. the world) G35driver, Fresh Alloy and etc. are your places to be. ;)

I've been seeing a bunch of RLs, GSs, and Ms on the road lately. Of course, it took several months post-release for this to happen. With the 3-series, I started seeing them after about a month. I have yet to see an A3, and I have finally seen a few A4s. As for the 9-2x, I've now seen about 3 in the last week, but before that the grand total was a nice round number... ;)

Mouthing off to a Super-Moderator is not a good career move here bub.
They aimed for 24k a year according to their website. They are on target to meet that goal.

The M is on pace for about 28,000 annual sales, which would exceed their goal. The GS is on pace to exceed its 33,000 annual goal as well. And the STS is an undeniable sales success.
Interesting thing is, it really hasn't put that much of a dent in the sales of the E and the 5.
I think this segment is pulling in some buyers from elsewhere.
