Yes, back in March but we knew before then. LExus is getting more serious about success in Europe and you need DIESAL engines to succed there, thus the first Lexus diesal car, the IS 220d

I love diesel engines even tho they are a bit noisy. I used to have diesel turbo cars back in my country and it was so nice to have massive tq. this new High Tech diesel has 400Nm ( which i think is around 310ft-lb)and it's quite yummy!
I'm all up for a diesel, so stupid with the sulfur crap we got here.
Europeans get AMAZING diesel engines, that IS220d engine is the same they used in Toyota, I forgot the name of the model, but its like between a Camry and Corolla, and it looks damn good with wagon body. You get amazing fuel mileage, great torque, nice trannies, what more can you ask?
I would LOVE to have a 3dr Golf Highline GTD, 150hp and 240lb ft, 6spd, drop it on some 19"s and call it a day, I know my dad would love a VW T5 TDI 4motion.
Low-sulfur diesel fuel is just a few months away now in the U.S....starting in 2006. It will be interesting to see what happens here....and what new diesels will be available. I have said a number of times that diesels make more sense as high-mileage vehicles than gas-electric hybrids do because you get roughly the same mileage with MUCH less complexity.......not having two separate motors ( or more...even up to 4 in the Highlander and RX400H ), the complex computer interaction between them, and the heavy battery packs that eventually will wear out.

You are thinking of the Toyota Avensis.
Great engine...............for a diesel!!
I think they will if there's enough demand here. I have read in an article posted in the 2IS forum that they don't see a significant demand for the diesel model here though . . .
I think it also has to do with the quality of the diesel you guys get.
We'll, we're supposed to start getting the good diesel soon... finally. We don't like to rush things too much over here... we're just now getting improved fuels... give us a few more decades to figure out the metric system.
