Very interesting review. Adds a lot to read a review from someone who has actually driven some of those cars on the real tracks and can compare the game to the real deal!
Variance, have you played Forza? Is it really better than GT4 like some magazines say? If so, I may have to go get an X-Box!

Yep, I have GT4 and Forza. I'd call them about even actually. It depends on what kind of gameplay you like. Forza is a game you can kind of jump in and play (at least it's more so than GT4). GT4 is more "professional" and involved.
For example, GT4 requires you to obtain licenses for you to be able to partcipate in more advanced races and some of the tests are not easy. In Forza they use levels to unlock cars, races and discounts off of auto parts. Whenever you win a race, you earn credits that go toward advancing to the next level.
Another thing is, GT4 has a much wider variety of cars than Forza and to me, GT4's tracks look more realistic. However, to realstic damage in Forza is pretty good. You can set it from only cosmetic damage to damage that affects the drivetrain and steering.

To me, you can't go wrong with either one.
I've played all the GT's, 1-4, but there is really nothing else on PS2 that I enjoy. (I like the more realistic driving games as opposed to Midnight Club type stuff). So, I was seriously considering getting an X-Box so I could play Forza. Is Forza limited in the number of cars it has, or is it that GT4 just has so dang many!?
my roomate bought a copy of forza for his xbox, and I spend time staking out when hell wake up so that I can go and play as soon as he does!
Its definitively addicting although a few pet peeves, my car isnt there. So I got the IS300 and if you want a turbo IS300 you HAVE to do the 2jz-gte swap, no na-t setup. And the 4.3 liter swap is cheaper then the 2jz-gte swap...
So I left it at NA and now my is300 has only 380 hp but super great throttle response...

GT4 has (according to the case) over 650 cars. IIRC, Forza has less than 200. Plus, GT4 has (a few) trucks and SUVs not to mention (driveable) concepts and rally cars. However, Forza does have Porsche and Ferrari (GT4 has RUF -- a Porsche tuner but not literally Porsche).
GT4 is great! i bought the game on the first day it came out and played it for like a month. i have like 100+ cars in my garage and it's kinda fun to drive different cars.
I have to say I preffered Forza. The car damage adds a whole new aspect to racing games as the location and extent affect you car differently. No more GT powerslides and skidding along walls. I also liked the suggested line that helps you learn how to take turns perfectly. And even though GT4 has more cars the Forza cars are much cooler (Ferrari, Konigsegg vs. 80 different skylines)
