I got a chance to drive the same color X-Runner at Carson Toyota when it first came out. My first impression of the handling....WOW. Not bad for a truck! It felt much more solid than my Solara SE V6- that's lowered on Eibach/Tokico setup. If I had to buy a midsize truck at this moment, the X-Runner and D-Cab Long Bed would also be on my list.
The X-Runner, like Scions and the Toyota Echo, was aimed mostly at younger people, but like with Scions, Autoweek just did a story (and owners' report) on how some older customers are lining up, too.
I was really going to get one earlier this year before we got the LS430. It's such a nice truck, handles like a dream and for it's price (around 25K) it was perfect too.
Only thing is, when compared to other trucks in it's class (Dodge SRT10 + Ford Lightning + That Chevy SS..?) it's very anemic.
Also the gears are a long throw.
Very fun though. Really tight being able to make tighter turns than daddy's car!
