Alright, well about three weeks ago, my dad went ahead and placed his order for a Black on Black 2006 Six Speed BMW M5. The best time table they were able to provide him with was that he would see the car some time inbetween Feb. and May. Im a little sketchy on all the details, but he is doing the deal where BMW contacts him when it arrives, and he flys up to some where on the East Coast and goes through the entire car with M engineers, then goes through a 1/2 day normal driving school with a BMW driver in his M5, then a 1/2 day performance driving school with a BMW driver in a broken in M5! Then he says goodbye to his baby, watches it load onto a semi headed to Houston, and he flys home and waits a few days for his new toy to arrive. I cant wait to ride in this beast! from everything that I have read from European and Middle Eastern owners that have already taken delivery of their M5, this car is a blast! Im pushing real hard for my dad to go ahead and invest in a clear shield on the front...
The other great news... its looking more and more like I will be inheriting the SC430 :D ....... Im doing some serious thinking about jumping on Carson Toyota's JP group buy, and going ahead and building a full JP SC430...

Excellent to hear, and even better to hear he's getting the true 6 speed. Frankly I'm still surprised BMW has allowed it, but it's for the best in keeping with the M tradition. Of course you know to post pictures ASAP right? :) Don't forget about us Lexus guys, and lucky you with the SC430!

Thats great news. When did your dad place a deposit to get a car that soon?
As far as i know the 6speed option was placed on hold for USA m5 and even if it wasn't the 6speed gearbox was supposed to be available a year after first state deliveries. Are you sure about manual?

My details are a little sketchy. I know he asked for a 6 Speed, Black on Black... He did put down a little deposit, but it really wasn't much compared to the cost of the car.
SO yeah... I know he asked for a 6 speed, but I dont know what will be delivered. Regardless he will love it!

BMW decided to go ahead and offer a traditional stick for the new M5 primarily because of the American market.......enthusiasts here were b - -ching so much about the SMT.

I don't know why, SMT > 6speed since the shifts are quicker.
Congrats though, we'll have to see some pics of this  Hopefully the wait on the IS350 isn't that long

Seems a bit quick to get the car. Most dealers have 15-20 people in line for both the M5 and M6. My dealer has 30 people for the M6 alone. Not sure what the production numbers are for the M5, but they expect *maybe* 1 M6 per month.
Im not involved there... Im just relaying information. However, this dealership is very large and is very well known, and has very good customer satisfaction... so I dont think it will be an issue, I fully expect them to deliver on this.

I had a feeling, but wasn't sure about it, so before saying anythng. I did a little research.
From M5Board.com

"2005-01-08 - Big news! After some rumours BMW NA finally confirms there is a M5 E60 manual gearbox in development, but not ready for launch at the same time as the SMG-version."
What exactly that means? if it holds true, the manual wil not come for a while...
it's been confirmed that BMW of North American will only have the manual M5 ready by no earlier than Sept of 2006.
so if your dad is the very first in line for a 6-speed manual M5. the earliest production date he'll be able to get is week 36. and you'll probably see the car in US in around late Oct. which is still more than a year to wait.

Hey guys... Like I said, Im not involved in the ordering / purchasing. I was just relaying information that he told me the other day when I decided to give my parents a call on my way home from work.
The details that really matter is that he will be recieving a 2006 M5. :woot:

yes, i understand. but the info you recieve from your dad is a bit condtridicting.
the fact is simple. if you are sure he is getting an 06 M5. then he is getting a M5 with SMG. on the other hand, if you are certain he is getting a manual M5, then he will not be able to get it before next Sept.
for what it is worth, i am recieving my M5 by Oct. of this year.

my dad will have to wait a little longer than you, but it will be worth it if he ineed is getting the 6 speed.
