Damn!!! from the looks of it, it came crashing into the post coming from the left side of the pic where those guys are all standing. Meaning that it was probably on the oncoming traffic, lost control for whatever reason, smased the pole, got hooked with the momentum of spininng around over to the edge of the guard rail/road. What do ya' think people, sounds like the masterplan? :thumbup:

I think the car hit the pole and momentum carried the rear around the pole and out over the railing.

I'm not sure it was a driver losing control. Looks to me like it was being towed and fell off the flat-bed....or somehow got unhitched from the straps on the tow truck. We can't see much of the road, but in the one shot where you see the curb in front of it, there are no skid marks either on the curb or the small amount of road visible.

I'll tell you how it happened... Grandma got to drive the Civic for the day. :egads:

Somewhat off topic, but Top Gear on Wednesday night had 70-80 year old women learning how to do donuts in an S2000!!! Frikkiin' awesome!

Well......she didn't get into the Auto Hall of Fame for nothing.

And as for me.....I drive sensibly, but that doesn't mean I don't KNOW how to drive otherwise.
Knowing HOW to do dumb things and actually DOING them are two different things.

Back on the thread topic....this specific accident. I don't totally agree with the Granny-losing-control theory. It is possible, yes, but it still looks to me more likely a case of where the car either got away from a tow truck or a transporter.

Let's see what Danica is like a a few more years. Coming in fourth ( or was it seventh ? ) at Indy at age 19 is not bad.

( At that age I spent as much time in the back seat as behind the wheel... ;) though I was still a gentleman and used some common sense ) :)
