Well my peeps..... I am approaching a tremendous lifechanging event... TXSTYLE Jr. :woohoo:
My wife is actually 21 weeks pregnant and we found out we're having a boy!
Now I have already been contemplating a New vehicle for @ 6 mos or so, having had my Z for 3 years exactly next week! When I saw and drove the new C6 I was impressed to say the least, but when I began reading the stats on the upcoming Z06... :eek2: I was like... Whatever it takes, even waiting a year! But obviously a child changes your outlook on things especially transportation. Now granted, I could still keep a Sports Car/2-Seater and acquire say a third car, but I also am getting somewhat tired of picking my azz up off the ground each and everytime I climb out of my Z or even a Vette for that matter. Of course, I have had my fair shair of rides particularly Sports Cars in my 35 yrs including:
I had a dealers liscence and bought most of my previous cars at auction w/ low miles and I switched cars up like once a year. Not until 1999 when I bought my Lexus GS400 did I keep a car more than 2 years (3 yrs to be exact) then I bought my Z in Sep 02' and have had it since. Of course alot has happened for me since 2000: Got married, Bought a new House, and the various expendetures that both of these things undoubtedly cause including 3 new vehicles for her! :uh: :)
Now then, I had also given serious consideration to an M45 right when my wife became pregnant and having driven it and the new GS430 back to back. It provides a decent amount of performance and room/practical of a 4-door.
And what hasn't already been said about the C6 Z06? The car will be the David of Golliaths among Supercars!
Enter the E55... Just @ a month ago, I went with a good friend of mine who was trying to decide between a new S500 and a new 745Li (he got an incredible deal on a demo 745Li!), did I have an opportunity to experience what is the E55! Not only have I loved the simple yet elegant design of the current E Class since it's re-design, but I also knew the incredible power/performance stats that AMG brought to this car only by reading and hearsay. Once I was able to actually slide into the car itself and unleash it's near 470hp & 517 ft/lbs of torque, did I realize just how nuking futs this car is! From the time you shut it's solid & heavy door, to the time you grasp the thick purpose-designed steering wheel, and get a whiff of the supple nappa leather, and gorgeous instrument panel, dash and centerconsole, do you realize this car is on a whole other level. But when I fired up the ignition... :eek1: I knew this car had more surprises in store. Of course in the confines of this German vault with the windows up, you still know a V8 resides whithin. But drop the windows down and give it a few stabs at the throttle, the quad-tip AMG exhaust reminds you, this ain't no E500! After a few city blocks to the Tollway entrance I was impressed by the superb suspension which sucked up most road imperfections, and the effortless steering. But once I entered the onramp and dropped the hammer... OMG! :eek2: This heavy sedan pulled as if we got kicked in the azz by King Kong! And it didn't stop feeling like that until I let up at @ 120. The salesguy said, "This car never ceases to fokin amaze me." With a big azz grin on my face, I said... "I fockin see why!"
By now you can probably since my utter admiration if not infatuation with this car. Of ALL 4-Door Sports Sedans on the road I preffer it's look more so than any. I happen to test drive a Silver w/ Charcoal interior. But I have already decided my next car will probably be White. The car is NOT cheap by any stretch, and I personally have no problem buying a pre-owned/certified one of these to save say $10-$15k, which is what I'm seeing in some cases. I would seriously consider the minivan idea. With the minivan, you can treat it like a beater. I will guarantee your child will spit up in your car. You would probably prefer it to happen in a minivan than on the leather in your benz. Also, loading the stroller and the rest of your house when you go somewhere in your minivan will be considerably easier. And don't forget when your child grows up and gets involved in sports. Him and his friends will be very likely to bring all the dirt on the field that they just played on into your car.
Also, having a fast car (E55 AMG) will more likely induce morons to try and race you. Even if you don't respond, they will try and provoke you to race. Do you really want to put the life of your child at risk?
If you still have the itch for performance, keep a 2 seater for the weekends or when you know you aren't going somewhere with a child on board.
Oh yeah, with a minivan, you don't need to park a million miles away from all the morons who might ding your paint with your doors. You also won't need to spend all your time detailing the car so that means you can spend more time with your son.
The only negative I see is that your wife might use the minivan as an excuse to pack her entire wardrobe when you go on vacation ;)

LOL! All valid if not non-applicable points:
We have and will always have an SUV. ;)
As far as spit-up... He will be surrounded by a plethora of blankets, towels, and other soft objects to catch unsuspecting bodily fluids. :D
The trunk is surprisingly big and a stroller and essential items will fit if and when needed.
As far as growing up and friends & sports... Again, SUV.
Racing? Not even a thought with child.
I also am kinda tired of climbing in and out of an on-the-ground sports car. So the sedan is very welcomed.
Door dings....? I have been parking far out, next to medians, and valeting all these years.... I don't intend to stop now. ;)

Of the two main cars you are considering I would choose the E-55 AMG over the Z06. The E-55 is an amazing car that accelerates right up there with most exotics 0-60 in 4.3 seconds. Although Mercedes vehicles are not known for their great reliability neither are Corvettes. At least with a Mercedes especially an E-class you do get a nice interior, high quality materials and a good fit and finish where Corvettes you get the cheap fisher price tupperware platics, poor fit and finish, numerous rattles and squeeks which will always remind you why you did not pay alot for all that performance you have. The new C-6 does have a slightly better interior then the C-5 but it still is a dissapointment especially considering how much it costs and nowhere near that of a E class based car. Since you have a child on the way I think it is better to have a four door or something with rear seats because you never know if the family car will be in the shop or you can't use it. Mercedes also hold their value better then GM cars especially a AMG car so for owning it a few years and selling it you would not loose all that much money. I think their will be less people trying to race you in the Mercedes since only enthusiasts really know that the AMG is a very powerful model. With a Corvette everyone knows its fast and it looks fast so you will get harassed by people and cops more. For the kind of money your spending have you looked at the new 997 Porsche 911. That car is excellent and they even have a more reliable reputation then Mercedes and Corvette. You get a great interior, unrivaled driving dynamics, a rear seat, and the Porsche 911 ownership experience. The new Z06 may have more horsepower and be faster but I still do not think it is a better car then a 911. You could wait for several different cars like the Austin Martin AMV8, Porsche sports sedan, Lexus LFA, new AMG E class, Acura NSX, Infiniti GTR, etc but that may take a while. I say go for the E-55 if you really like it but only if you can really afford it with a new child on the way and if you have plenty of disposible income for paying bills, college, emergencies, medical, the future, etc. Good Luck and your lucky to be in the position to buy these great highly desireable cars.

Well spoken Udel. To perfectly honest on some of your points:
I have never been truly crazy (like gotta have it) about 911's except the TT. They are nice but IMO other cars look and perform just as nice for far less money. Your comments on the C6 seem, well, biased. The interior isn't on par with many cars, but it is considerably nicer than the C5 and it's performance can NOT be overlooked especially the Z06!
I am VERY interested in the upcoming GT-R. But again, I'm kinda ready for a 4-door. :)
As far as "disposible income" goes... I preffer to look at this type of purchase as an investment. Not the kind that will give my $ gains like realestate, but an investment in my "lifestyle". That is to say, it serves my basic needs as well as serves up excitement for my boyish desires. And $ for my childs expenses... Already have been planning and will continue to do so. My wifes income is generally for savings. ;)

its funny cause i am seriously concidering the E55 also. the only problem is i cant find a good websites like CL for info on it. i hear the 05s dont have many issues.. the 04s have less than the 03s and they have the full maintanence. the e55 is the clear choice for me if or when i decide to get it. parts for that car r INSANE though.. 3k for a eisenmann exhaust. but sounds AMAZING.. if u to go http://www.eisenhaus.com/main.php there is a clip of a sl55.. i figure its bout the same tone. good luck with ure choice.. and im lookin for white too...hard to find.. ebay has 2-3/ month. and very few on autotrader, autobytel, etc.

Z06. They make grants for college now days... Itd be unreasonable to be expected to Pay for their entire college of your kids especially when it comes to todays tuitions, and personally I think it teaches them absolute noting about responsibility, if theres no effort wheter getting the grades, or working a job to attend a university. "ya oh well I flunked out its ok Ill have mommy and daddy pay out of their life savings for me to take this course again because im a slacker." :thumbdn: Teach them early that hard work pays off. And there is more enjoyment when you EARN. The niceties of life, like car, school comfortable style.
and minivans or third vehicles can be pretty affordable if bought pre owned.
The E55 will be slower in all aspects, especially in the handling department which well Its extremely important to me. DO you really want to hauld your child in a fast car anyways where temptations could be strong? Get a secondary car for that.
Less luxorios but handles better stops better accelarates better, and its cheaper.
But dont listen to me or anyone of us drive the car first.

I'm biased, my cousin owns an E55 AMG. I've driven it, he's got a few performance upgrades like filter, upgraded ECU, and an air module suspension upgrade....the thing freakin' hauls @ss...and the handling aint bad either, not as good ah my homie's M5 in the bends and twistys but better than most cars with suspension upgrades.
Here are a few pics of it dropped after the air module suspension upgrade was installed
Congrats on the baby!!
And for me, I always choose praticality over coupe, especially when performance is very close.

Peformance not really that close, Z06 is a sub-4 sec. car, 3.7 vs. 4.3 sec. for the E55.
> 1/2 sec. difference is significant in that range. Z06 handles better too.

First off, congrats on the baby!
AMG all the way!!! Go for it! As other people have said, the C6 has more of a tupperware like feel to the inside. The E55 is a bit slower, and doesn't handle as well.... but I mean... for a 5 passenger, 4 door car... the E55 is a monster. I also think its one of the most beautiful cars out there today.

First... Thanks to Mike and the couple of congrats I received on my soon to be son. My familia and I are VERY excited and extactic without question! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
Second... As hard as it is for me to bite my tongue, it's just NOT in my nature to do so. So to all, make that THE naysayers who choose (for whatever reason) to reply in my thread (even though no one asked you to) you can just, well, let your imagination work...
This thread is ALL about positivety: The announcement of my upcoming child (which they convienently didn't mention) and the personal opinion between the 2 cars. Nothing more, nothing less. I am begining to suspect that some folks here just don't get it. Let me try again... If your comments are not in response to the 2 simple points/topics I just made, PLEASE do NOT reply in my thread. Or future threads for that matter! And guess what, I will gladly extend to you the same courtesy. Thank you. :)
Now then... You guys as well as other friends and forums have put several things into perspective for me:
These are 2 different purpose-built cars!
In this price-point several things should be considered, including: reliabilty, safety and build quality for starters. Practicality also favors the ubber sedan. Although performance is right up there. :D
That said... The E55 appears to be the winner at least for me. So I am actually considering and am in negotiations with the owner of the car I posted above. If everything pans out on both sides, I could acquire it real soon. BUT, I am a bargain-hunter and I am still looking at several options nation-wide, and I will continue to do so... Because it is MY decision and MY cheddar. ;)
Thanks again to those of you who give/gave a positive unbiased opinion in this purchase decision for my family and I.

You've said a couple of times that getting in/out of a low car like the Z is getting old (like we are, lol), and I can certainly relate to that and would not get a Vette because of that. Also, the Z06 will be amazing no doubt, but you'd still need a sedan because you're never going to take your son in it, at least not for a few years (too impractical).

Also, the Z06 will be amazing no doubt, but you'd still need a sedan because you're never going to take your son in it, at least not for a few years (too impractical).
The E55 is just incredible, as well as practical. I think it's an easy choice.
Thanks alot buddy.
My wife has been uhhhm... Not the easiest person to be around lately LOL! But all my friends and family who have kids told me to expect that. Emotional Freight Train to say the least.
Seriously, even if you don't upgrade the car, it's still got so much torque you'll have to get a new hip within no time.

They will not be producing the E65 or the CLS55. The engine compartment will not take the V12 according to AMG.
You mean CLS65? I saw a CLS55 today...

Enough talk...
it's all good to talk about it... it's better to make it happen... .
Yes.....you have a point to some extent, but I can't totally agree. This forum is not called CAR CHAT for nothing. And when you are talking about an E55 or a Z06....those cars are not chump change. You don't want to make a snap decision with that kind of money....especially considering that both cars have had reliability problems, and the difficulty of getting affordable insurance for a Z06.

You need to be extra patient when she's irritable or just completely looney. Imagine you had a baseball growing into a bowling ball in your belly! :D
But your son is gonna be one lucky kid!

WOW... Several AMG's must be just intoxicating! I was reading a very interesting article here Lou on how Mercedes intends to combat the aging tranny and power issues it has posed by introducing a new line of V8 and Trannys: http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/d...rticleId=106510
Watch out M5... Big Time!
They are fun to say the least. The new engine, the normally aspirated 6.3 engine will be interesting mated to the new transmission. I have heard that the new engine is a result of some new legislation in Germay that dictates the amount of hood clearance between the engine and hood and the SC engine sits too high. I thought we were foolish in Cali. The new engine will have more horespower and less torque than the supercharged 5.5 liter engines. This is one of the reasons for the new 7 speed transmissions ; the torque produced by the SC engines is too much for the 7 speed to handle. I know one thing for certain, I will miss the supercharger growl at full throttle and the AMG modified 5 speed is far from aging. The new 7 speed will get better acceleration with less torque and better gas mileage. However gas mileage was the farthest thing from my mind when getting the cars. :p :D :D

Now about the car. There is not much more I can add, so I'll just give you my choice: E55 hands down.

Jim, I see you and I have the same interests. Don't forget about the new Motor Trend which in my hand says 0-60 in 3.5 (1st gear) and the quarter in 11.5@127.1. Insanity. I'll take mine in silver on black with red inserts. I would scan it up but I can't find my scanner cables! I'm sure they'll be on the net soon enough. My suggestion stands :woot:
Oh, they also had the IS350 go 0-60 in 5.5, and the quarter at 14.0@99.8.

That would be a waste of a car. They didnt tune this thing on the nurburgring and other major track courses for noting!
Besides there are much faster cars in this forum alone, just check the SC and IS subforums they probably dont handle as well though..
Itd be a waste if you only took that car to the dragstrip, that would be adequate for someone that truly cant or does not enjoy driving. I
One dimensional driving is a major pet peeve of mine.
HEY....! What's up with the 'hijack'? Inab & Jim? We all know the stats of the mighty Z06. The question was which car for me? :egads:

My bad man, I get excited sometimes. For you, since you don't wanna pick yourself up off the ground every entrance or exit, the E probably is best, but I still say Z06.

Now...as for the cars...choice is simple (to me). Get the Benz. Plenty of power stock and power upgrades are available if you're a hp freak, it's a safer vehicle, cheaper to insure, etc...it's just a better car for what you've said your life will consist of. Vettes are just powerhouses plain and simple, other than that I don't care for them. A car that frickin' huge shouldn't be THAT small inside.
The last time I liked a Vette was when "Face" on the A-Team drove one :p
...and jimxo, I think Marcus meant James ("Jet") aka Jim, not you...but it's all good, keep talkin' it up fellas!

OK...technically you're right. What I really meant to say was not necessarily just a drag strip but motorsports facilities in general. Too many people buy hot cars and then try and drive them in an illegal manner on public roads.

Congrats on the child, and I hope it all goes well for you. If your looking for a E55, by 6 7 months it will drop in price more. they are sooo very nice. Ive swore the new z06 will be my next car, and my first new car. But then again....
e55 certified would be awesome.

Thanks on the congrates and the suggestion.
And you know... That's what my thread is all about:
1. The announcement of my child for which we are so happy about. :woohoo:
2. Fellow members thoughts and opinions between the 2 cars. Not WHEN YOU WANT me to get them. :nono:
I have my timeframe (which is shorter than 6 mos.) and you better believe I am NOT gonna pull the trigger on such a tremendous purchase without scouring the country for the BEST possible deal. And that "deal" could be a couple of mos away! In the meantime it helps to get fellow enthusiasts input about the CARS themselves. Nothing more, nothing less. ;)

I hope I'm not hating, but honestly if your timeframe is 6 months or shorter, you may as well just go with the E55 because everyone who's getting their Z06 soon has been on the list for a while. The only way to get an 06 as I see it is to take a huge gouge (like $10k) by the stealership or buy someone's they got early for MSRP and are trying to sell a profit. In your best interest, the E55 would be safer. :)

Well, Jim, one of the main differences between the two cars, money-wise, is that with the Z06, you'll stand in line to get one and probably pay way over list....you get your screwing up front at sale time. But when it's time to go back for service, the prices are reasonable.....not much more than other chevies.
With the E55, ( and with most other M-B products ) on the other hand, you won't get screwed as bad right up front at sale time.....but oh, boy....just wait till the free service period or the warranty runs out and you have to go back to the M-B shop......empty your wallet, brother. :yikes:

i'm going to have to go with the E55 on this one...
not because i like the E55 more... if i had the money and the play time to drive around a Z06 i'd take that over the E55...
but considering the child (congratulations by the way !), the E55 is a more practical idea...
a sedan would be much more comfortable for you and your soon-to-have family... the Z06 just doesn't fit in the picture... maybe once the boy grows up and he can fend a bit for himself, you can get the Z06 and pick him up at school...
but until then... i'll have to go with the E55
and obviously you weren't dissappointed on what it could do... that should be plenty for now...
congrats again on the baby :woot:

I have a friend who only messes with amg cars at auctions. 2003 e55 Ive heard these dipping high 40's and low 50's. Even when gm discount days end, I think a person with a actual employee discount might be able to get a new z06, or maybe not. I checked on a 2003 z06 n they said they would let me have it at employee discount. This was a year ago, and In Lexington.
N E way still decided on a name yet?

WOW high 40s!!! thats crazy.. certified preowned ones run high 60s. for 03s. im weary bout buyin from auctions cause we all know german cars history on reliabliity. and ive looked into some aftermarket warranties and it seems lots of them dont cover AMG models hehe. but if u still have the remaining warranty shouldnt be too bad.

The E55 is most definitely more practical and a monster in it's own right.
I'd go with the Z06 though, it's a monster +1 and a black Z06 with black wheels/ polished lips would be gangsta. Plus, there wouldn't much of anything out there (stock at least) that could see you.

Thanks for the most recent congrats guys! :)
And I've been surfing/researching the E55 online and the issues I have read about have been warranty related/covered. Basic maintenance I am prepared for (knowing it will be higher than previous cars of mine) but a warranty is a must, if not extended. ;) In the end, after locating one for the best price, mileage, and warranty, and then having it inspected, I will be comfortable knowing that I have done all my homework and made a wise purchase.

LOL! Glad someone asked me that. Well he won't be a Jr. Not that I'm unhappy with my name, I have just always (way back in my early 20's when I started thinking about having children) thought a child should have their own identity, at least mine. :)
Thus so far:

Gabriel
Sebastian
My name Marcus for his middle name. My wife likes all of these choices as well, but we still have @ 4.5 months to decide. ;)

It's amazing how much your name has an influence on your life. Mine is Walter L. White IV and it's a really strong dignified name that has gotten me plenty of interviews and in many doors. I have friends that have more "colorful" names and they can't even get a callback. :(
