Welp here we go again, coming down to the final stretch of games to see who takes the east this year.
I obviously do not think the Yankees can catchus but time will tell. It will be sick if it comes down to the final series in Boston which I think it will.
So where are the Yanks and Sox fans during this final push to the playoffs???

GO SOX!!!!! :woot:

I am in CA but I have been always a HARDCORE Yankee fan starting from when i was in Long Island........man you can always find Yankee Haters anywhere ;)WHY? Because IMO unlike us most of the LA fans are "Bandwagon" fans. If thier team wins then the whole states go crazy but if they lose then the fans are no where to be seen. Although Yanks lose too but thier history is just so great and filled with awsome accomplishments and 1st class players that i feel great to be a fan.

I get alot of "S" having the yankee plate on my 2GS and a NY YANKEES frame on the rear plate of my 3GS...i always have fun with it....GO YANKS!!!!

i woulda did the whole "insert middle finger here" thing, followed by the smiley face, but that probably still woulda been frowned upon. IF we made the playoffs, i'd much rather play sox or angels as opposed to the indians. but, then again, i thought there was another hot team that made it to the AL playoffs, maybe it was oakland or the twins, and they didn't do much.

as long as there aren't any hiccups, this final weekend we'll at least have our three best starters (with all due respect to shawn chacon). wang on friday, unit on saturday and moose on sunday. i like chacon but i feel like he isn't as proven as wang. who ya'll got goin?

Yanks are down 13-7 in the 7th inning, the Sox are down 6-5 in the 9th inning. Indians lost, so if the yankees lose now and the sox lose, all will remain unchanged in the standings except that the Yanks and Sox will be tied because the Sox had that doubleheader today, winning game 1.

Us Red Sox fans plan to give A-Rod and Giambi a very "warm" welcome this weekend at Fenway. I sure hope they have life and health insurance. :D
Gay-Rod and Balco boy will get the warm welcome they always do here at Fenway, but the one who will get harrassed the most will be Jeter becuase of this recent hate mail he received. Now I don't necessarilly agree with it but it is going to be very difficult for him to perform this weekend with all the disractions going on in his personal life.

Terrible night, we have Schill on the mound with a chance to be in first by ourself and pretty much sew up a playoff spot and he can;t deliver.
Poor guy may hav epitched his way outta his career last year.
Jeff buddy don't start bailing on me now. When was the last time Schilling went out and got 8 k's? He actually loked pretty good he just made a few costly mistakes. Don't worry the Yanks are in the same boat. Look what happened to Moose last nite :eek2: The yanks have pitched a good stretch of ball lately but that might have ended last night when they got spanked by the O's. The winner of the 3 games in Fenway will be the first team to 14 :D . Oh and BTW we have David Ortiz - YANKEE KILLER!!!! :woohoo:

unbelievable, but i guess MAYBE you can get a pass, considering you've spent sleepless nights for the last MONTH wondering whether your team was gonna pull the unthinkable. to be honest, that'd be worst then blowing 3-0 to a team that eventually, well, you know what i mean. soooo, instead of even getting remotely cocky, i'd call up a devil rays fan, any devil rays fan, and thank them for at least being consistent in giving good teams problems.

And honestly, no sleepless nights. Nor is it my problem that the Yankees lost the season series to the Devil Rays yet the Devil Rays laid down against the Indians. And no it wouldn't be worse than blowing a 3-0 lead to a team that eventually, well you know what I mean.

Ummmmmm if the Red Sox sweep this series, they will automatically be in the Playoffs. If the yankees win the next 2, then they will automatically be in the playoffs. If the Red sox win 1, and the yanks win 1, then there will be a Tie atop the American League East. Now the next deciding factor is the Head to Head series, which, if it needs to be looked at, the yankees will win 10-9 (right now, as of tonite, the yanks lead the season series 9-8), and there would be no need for a pre-playoff game. Therefore, all the Yankees need to do is win one game in this series, am I correct? Now if the Indians keep losing, and there is a 3 way tie for 2 playoff spots, then I think we need to have a tiebreaking game, right?

Yes, you are correct. :)

If the Yankees win just one out of the next two games, then they are the A.L. East division champs.

If that happens, then the Indians MUST lose two out of three to the ChiSox. Then the Red Sox would enter as the wild card.

Hi there :)

If the Yankees win just one more game, then they are the 2005 A.L. East Champs.

In that case, Boston will compete with Cleveland for the Wild Card.

So,

If the Yankees win the division and the Red Sox and Indians finish with identical records, then the Indians travel to Fenway for a one-game playoff series and the winner plays Chicago in the first round.

The Yankees then host the Angels.

You know what? It would be a lot more easier if the White Sox just beat the Indians!!! :D

This is true that they are tied, but if the Yankees and Red sox end up with identical records at the end of this series, (meaning the yanks win 1 of the next two) then the Yankees take first place because of the season head to head series, which the yankees will win 10-9, so in actuality, the yankees only need to win 1 game in this series to take the AL East pennant.

If the Sox and Yanks are tied after this weekend they go to NY to play a playoff game to decide who wins the East. They DO NOT determine winner of a division buy season series.

I think this is the most memorable and special title for the Yankees. With their many injuries, pressure from Steinbrenner and the NYC media, etc.

Many people say that A-Rod is the MVP for the Yankees. I actually think it is Rivera, Chacon, and Small. Chacon and Small were a combined 17-3!!! The Yankees were 16-4 in their final 20 games. Bad timing for my Red Sox!!! :egads:

Many people say that A-Rod is the MVP for the Yankees. I actually think it is Rivera, Chacon, and Small. Chacon and Small were a combined 17-3!!! The Yankees were 16-4 in their final 20 games. Bad timing for my Red Sox!!! :egads:

I'm confident that the Red Sox will win the Wild Card. So see you in the ALCS.

Anyway, best of luck this weekend and I am pretty sure that either the Yankees or the Red Sox will be sitting at home when the 1st playoff pitch is tossed.
In your face Ed! :p J/K I mean come on it's the greatest rivalry in sports who the hell wouldn't wanna watch that? I think the Yanks got it tough and I'm glad we didn't win the division. They have to travel across the country to play the Angels who are well rested and playing good ball as of late. While the Red Sox only go halfway around the country to play a team limping into the playoffs (the Indians really gave them a scare). Anyways congrats to all teams who made the playoffs and now its time to shut up and play. :woohoo:

Yes, I was wrong. I thought the Indians would win 2 of 3 to at least force a playoff with Boston, oh well.....

And yes, I agree traveling cross country always makes it more difficult.

There certainly are valid reasons to believe that the CWS will be an easier opponent, but sometimes when that happens you get bit too. And the CWS were always only 3-4 games ahead of St Louis for the best record in baseball and even with their slump still finished with the 2nd best record in baseball (one game back of St Louis) and with the best record in the American League. If the CWS limped in then how come no one in the American League was able to catch them? It was more a factor that Cleveland played excellent baseball the last 57 games of the year (39-18, winning 15 of 16 at one point) which made the slump look worse than it really was. And the CWS still went 14-5 in the season series with Cleveland.

And I wouldn't necessarily call winning 5 of our last 7 as limping into the playoffs. Plus the CWS had quite a few injuries to deal with during Cleveland's run but are back to being pretty healthy again and should be fine come tomorrow. IMO the Bosox are the ones who limped in (they were up by 3 or 4 with a few weeks to go and then had to finally get the wild card on the last day of the season, right?).

I'm just hoping the CWS can pull a Florida Marlin concept and win it all. We shall see starting tomorrow. (fingers crossed)

Duly noted but the White Sox long streak has no curse associated with it, the Goat is the Cubbies thing.

Last year when Foulke pitched in the clincher I felt that signaled that the White Sox year would be this year. (Foulke came up thru the CWS farm system (if I remember correctly) and the CWS streak was the next longest after the Red Sox) Coincidence? I think not! Beware of the Marlin concept, the Braves know all too well.

Also Contreras's lone win against the Red Sox, who he is 1-6 against, came this year....hmmm. :eek2:

yanks pulled out the formula last night. it's waaaay more comforting knowing we can put leiter and smalley in those 6th and 7th innings. especially smalley. i can appreciate leiter, but i don't like the type of pitcher leiter is. too much of a nibbler, hates throwing pitches over the good part of the plate AND is stubborn.

On another note, one win does not a Series make. But for many that don't know, the CWS hit more homers during the season than the Bosox (yes even counting Ramirez and Ortiz) and Podsednik stole more bases than their whole team, not to mention our pitching staff, maybe no super studs, but solid top to bottom. Better than Wells and his 4.45 ERA. Wells will need some run production or else his fat, slobby ass is toast!

I'm sure the Red Sox will come back strong and I'm sure Guillen will have the guys prepared. Hey we finished the season 8-2 and swept the best team in baseball the last 57 games of the year to keep them from making the playoffs. We were also the best team in MLB in one run games during the season, not too shabby if you ask me. :p

But hey, the CWS need to keep producing or it all means nothing!

Sooner or later you have to lose one of these series, eventually their ability to overcome these odds will fail and the luck will run out. It might as well be to the CWS :p

Granted you can look to the error as the turning point, but the CWS still had to come thru as well, that homer by Iguchi was HUGE! And then to shut the Bosox out the rest of the game was no small feat either. I believe credit should be given where credit is due

After watching that game I feel very good about this year being our year of destiny. But 1st we must focus on one game at a time and that next one is Game 3. Clutch pitching, clutch hitting, and clutch coaching moves is what we need to continue to do, let's hope the CWS can.

Any team can win it all but in the end, there is only one dynasty.

considering how close we are to bein' on our azzes ourselves, i'm not tryin' to hand it to red sox fans. maybe this rivalry that has gone on on such a big stage (the postseason) is done. the unit let us down last night. i'm goin out to this party tonight. the yanks being eliminated would be such a buzzkill. :thumbdn:

Thanks for the well wishes. Appreciate it guys, as does everyone who has been a lifelong White Sox fan.

Me, since the days of (1968) Wilbur Wood and Eddie Herman and Bill Melton (guy who won the 1972 HR title with 32 dingers). Had Richie Allen for a spell and even won Ugly one year (1983). Only to become Oriole toast.

There is still alot of work to do. Too much to mention, but previous Champions know the drill all too well! Right? all you Red Sox and Yankee and Brave fans. And trust me, we're not forgettin' about those Cardinal, Angel, or Astro fans either. (One of my co-workers is a huge Cardinal fan and we're both hopin' to meet in the WS...(shhhhhhhh)

The broom came out briefly and now it is history. Don't mean much when the next pitch is thrown a few days down the road. "Miles to go before we sleep"

GOOOO White Sox!

the unit didnt do what he was brought here to do win playoff games. we alwaysspend this money on pitchers who either get hurt or dont perform well on the bggest of stages and im tired of it.i knew we were in trouble whwn johnson was gettig smacked around in the 1st. now our season is hanging on chacon? im not buying that. we havent had god pitching since the rocket and petite left

Oh wow, they left a whole 2 years ago.... I feel so sorry for you

And always spending money on pitchers who don't perform in the clutch? huh? :uh: How many World Series titles don't you have?

im not looking for your sympathy or anyone elses for that matter if goerge an spend thats his right but why keep spending on 2nd tier pitchers in my opinion in the last couple of years and we have 26 and stil counting

the way i see it, we got johnson via a trade. we got rid of an arm that we just weren't gonna have (vasquez), and upgraded. yes, we didn't get what we were supposed to get out of rjohnson but
he did what he did and not much we can do about it. honestly, it was our bullpen that killed us.
that has been more of the story this year as far as our losses go. the back end of our bullpen is fine (even though it is aging a little). it's getting there that is the problem. with escobar and shields, the angels have two above average guys that can pretty much cover the 6th thru 8th innings. unfortunately for us, if we don't win this year, we go into next year and maybe get the middle relief pitching solidified, but gordon/rivera age another year, and it won't be long before their era's come to a close. tough times being a yankee fan right now. :thumbdn:
