In terms of paint jobs, I have always experienced, "you get what you pay for." DaveGS4 09-26-05, 09:52 AM From everything I've read, MAACO is sub-par and I wouldn't recommend them. My only personal experience is a good buddy in HS / College getting his 70 Chevelle painted by them. Awful issues with color, orange peel, paint durability, etc. This was 20 years ago so I would get some more up-to-date reference points :) mmarshall 09-26-05, 09:54 AM Yes...MAACO and Earl Sheib are both budget places for budget paint jobs. RON430 09-26-05, 10:20 AM If you have a beater and don't feel like painting it in the backyard with spray cans, go right ahead. But I wouldn't let them touch anything Toyota, especially a Lexus. Seize 09-26-05, 10:58 AM Don't skimp on a paint job..like they say, "you get what you pay for" IS0LD0UT 09-26-05, 11:05 AM please dont do that to your car. That would be the last place I'd go for a paint job! :egads:   bitkahuna 09-26-05, 11:10 AM A Maaco paint job would be like Bose speakers. They both talk a good game but don't deliver a whole lot for the money you pay. Koma 09-26-05, 11:17 AM I've heard that they paint the panels sitting on the car... meaning that they don't cover the inside seams. Hardly what I call a paint job. Stage3 09-26-05, 04:24 PM Only use them if you are running from the law. there is nothing good coming from a $250 paint job. :egads: mcelligott 09-26-05, 06:17 PM My friend had his car painted there in high school. His emblems were misplaced and were never found. One year later, his car looked like it had been primered red. GS300Rich 09-26-05, 08:46 PM Along with everyone else, these are sub par paint jobs. I could see if you just paid $1k for the car you dont want a $8k paint job, but if you really care about your car go to a more respectable shop mcelligott 09-26-05, 09:31 PM Only use them if you are running from the law. there is nothing good coming from a $250 paint job. :egads: Thats a good point. Let's say you were going to commit some sort of crime and wanted to change the color of your car in a hurry. Go to maaco, and when you get the car back, commit the crime. Right after the crime go to one of those high pressure car wash bays. I'm sure the maaco paint will come right off and poof! You have a different color getaway car! koolaidman 09-26-05, 09:51 PM RUN AWAY FROM MAACO FAST. One verb---SUCKS nthach 09-27-05, 09:34 PM Maaco actually uses decent paint from Sherwin-Williams, rather than the in-house Earl Scheib crap, but they suck at prep work. nthach 09-27-05, 09:36 PM MAACO's paint job, does anyone have any experience im debating in redoing my lexus to either all white or black. do yourself a favor, find a community college by you that offers collision repair and take the refinish course, and if you have to, the summer lab. toy4two 09-27-05, 11:59 PM Yes...MAACO and Earl Sheib are both budget places for budget paint jobs. My friend got his Camaro painted at Earl Sheib, looked good for exactly 1 year and then peeling, fading, looked actually WORSE year later. I wouldn't recommend them, but each is independently owned, so you might find a good shop. I have seen good paintjobs come out of there. Just make sure you get base / clear job, dont fall for the "clear coat is mixed in" garbage, that is what my friend got, CRAPPY paint. As far as paint you want to get good urethane paint from PPG or Dupont. You can actually do a really good job yourself with the new HLVP air guns and the above paints if you have an air compressor. |
