What do you think of the RX400h that Lexus and Paul McCartney are raffling? (see links)
Say you get lucky and win it, what would you do with it? Drive it? Keep it under wraps? Sell it?
Is it worth the proverbial mint as a short-term or long-term investment? Yes, the "Beatles" connection will be strong for some potential buyers, but will its relatively ordinary automobile roots keep it down? Or, is it just plain fugly? What's it worth at auction in the real world?
I would be a lot more interested in it if it was Ringo Starr raffling it off instead of Paul. I always had a much higher opinion of Ringo ( for a number of reasons) than I did the other three Beatles...especially John Lennon.
I think if in pristine condition, it is worth a considerable amount...look at the one-of-a-kind microphone shifter, the special exterior paint job, unique leather design...probably at least $80,000....
I can certainly see the extra $10K-$50K premium being kicked around in your posts, but that doesn't qualify as "tons" for me.
My pal works for Lexus and is chugging their Kool-aid ... he's talking $1MM as a long-term investment! Hardly plausible in my book. There's nothing about this pedestrian rig that comes close to supporting the extra $950K! Glad I'm not the crazy one on this one.
* By the way, donate $10 to a seemingly good cause and maybe you'll be its new owner.
Ugh... I'm not exactly a Beatles fan. I suppose they deserve their place in Rock n' Roll history, but most of their stuff actually sounds pretty similar to me. I think I am about two decades too young to "get it." Funny how they were SO cutting edge back then, and sound so "bubblegum pop" by todays standards. I will just add that I don't care much for current-day "Top Forty" music, either.
One of my longtime friends is cursed with the name "John Linen." This gets interesting when he is on the telephone calling new customers or making reservations. We used to call him "The Dead Beatle..." Can't any more. He actually looks like Beavis, so we call him "Beavis" now....
Back on topic: I'd sell it and donate half the proceeds to the American Cancer Society.
