Hit something on the road and popped a tire (with pics!)
I was getting on to the freeway and I hit something at the end of the on-ramp. I knew it was big because my car jumped, then a second later I hear a flat tire and I immediately pull over. I put on my spare and inspect the tire:
My rear passenger tire has two holes, each a little bigger than a centimeter about 5 inches apart. Then I walk back to the point of impact hopping to find a giant pothole so I can ask the city to pay for it, instead I find this!
It's huge and heavy and metal! What is it? How did it come off a car and they didn't notice? I'm by no means a gear head but this thing looks important... So anyways the tire is getting patched at firestone for $40.
Son of a monkeys uncle! Firestone said the hole is too big, and I need new tires This sucks because I have no one to blame but myself, i should have seen that thing lying in the middle of the road...
It kind of looks like a very small piece of a drive shaft from a big truck. The right side looks like the u-joint that either connects to the trans. or the rear axle. I could be wrong though, anyone else?

Well the on-ramp was shaded by trees so it was spotted light and dark by the branch shadows and I was wearing my super cool extra dark sunglasses . Is that a good enough reason I ended up leaving the tire for Firestone to discard. They seemed a little to eager to accept a "bad" tire. Is it possible for them to fix it anyway and then try and sell it?

Oh, ya that makes sense.... now where's that "sunglasses at night" song?

no unless they like lawsuits. You cant patch that tire.
