Default Question on new relationship between Toyota/Subaru

I was in a Subaru dealership yesterday with a co-worker and noticed that Subaru dealers make their payments to "Toyota Motor Credit" or something like that. I believe that I read somewhere that the 20% of Subaru that was held by GM has recently been bought out by Toyota. As I have an aunt that works for Subaru corporate, I was wondering if there may be the potential for any type of "employee pricing" scheme via her on a Lexus now, particularly on a new IS350. Not sure if this is the right place for this post, so feel free to move it if there is a better location for the thread.

I don't believe this will be the case since they won't be a wholly owned subsidiary. Toyota as a company couldn't purchase ALL of the shares that GM was offering as they are already nearing monopoly status in Japan as they control 45% of the automobile market. I believe from what I understand there will be some tooling and technology sharing and perhaps a cross platform vehicle (like the Toyota/GM Matrix/Vibe relationship) but little else. I've heard conflicting reports on whether or not the amount that Toyota purchased (I believe around 8%) is enough to be a controlling interest.

As far as Toyota Motor Credit being on the bills that may just be because Toyota Motor Credit farms out financing/leasing and warrantys to other dealerships... A non toyota dealer may take preference with those over native finance companies or local deals because they offer better incentives/commisions/mark ups, etc. TMCC does financing for plenty of non-toyota dealers.

According to the figures flip posted last week I think Toyota bought 8.7% of the shares.

But......all this financial stuff is for the accountants. The real excitement here is the prospect ( if possible ) of mating the best engines (Toyota ) with the best AWD systems ( Subaru ).

Ratman.....that is a very interesting queston about your aunt. . I wish I had the answer for you but I don't. My suggestion is to contact the people at Lexus Financial Services ( here is their website ) and discuss it with them. You may be able to work out some kind of deal....but it may also have to involve the dealership you are buying from.

In the meantime, if you change your mind, or if she doesn't qualify........Subaru makes some damn nice products for the money....especially in the Legacy / Outback line. She could probably get employee pricing on one of those.
