I used to get mad when they'd release the 01 in the early 00, not later. I could care less what some rough draft looks like because in 4 years that image won't even be able to be found - especially not on the car.

rear is nice the front looks like a messed up 5 series. and shouldnt the 09 be a total redesign? looks to subtle to be a new gen.

Judging from these pictures alone, it is somewhat of an improvement on the current 7-series....but not enough. They need to bring back the pre-Bangle look and features.

The rear looks like a Buick to me. I don't really dig the car much, its not bad looking per say, just not good. The current 7 at least has some presence even though it looks a bit out of the norm. This one looks like it has been toned down a lot, so it loses its presence, but just don't look that great. An example of a car that doesn't scream out "look at me" but still looks very classy and smooth is the A8. I dunno what they're trying to do with this one.

Here's AutoExpress's report based on these pics. I think they're just some random artist's imaginary renderings as usual. Looks bland, but at least all the Bangle cues are gone so I guess it's an improvement (which isn't saying much). :confused:

Fans of big BMWs are sure to be in "Seven heaven" with the daring replacement for the 7-Series executive saloon shown in this week's mag.

The car will have new headlamps, tail-lights and more rounded bodywork than the current model's controversial 'flame-sided' panels. Huge alloy wheels will be available, too - measuring up to 21 inches in diameter - for those who want their Beemer to come with added 'bling'.

The newcomer, which will be offered with both short and long wheelbases, is toshare some chassis components with the current 7 range. However, most underpinnings will be completely fresh.

Entry-level machines will be powered by a new 252bhp six-cylinder diesel unit. There will also be a choice of petrol engines, although this time a V12 version isn't planned. Instead, the flagship model is likely to have a detuned version of the V10 from the M6. It will also get that car's seven-speed SMG semi-automatic gearbox.

Inside, improvements include a revised evolution of the controversial iDrive cabin control system. It will be repositioned and much easier to use. Although

the car is scheduled to be launched in autumn 2008, the real fireworks for the range won't be until the following year. That's when BMW plans to introduce a hybrid version and a special xDrive four-wheel-drive edition.

As well as cutting carbon dioxide emissions and improving refinement, the hybrid is likely to have 110v electrics to power optional extras within the car. These could include a night vision system, high-power headlamps, which automatically turn off main beam when another vehicle app-roaches, and fast-acting air-conditioning.

But it's not only the 7-Series that isgetting a smart new look. Our spy photographers snapped the partly disguised 3-Series Coupé pictured above as it made a short journey outside BMW's Munich HQ. The sleek bodywork and outline of the rear windscreen are visible for the first time.

The Coupé's front lights - coveredby plastic cladding here - are expected to be changed from those on four-door modelsto produce a sportier look. And a new engine line-up is set to include a 3.5-litre six-cylinder unit that will debut in the 335i.

Rear taillamps reminds me much of the 6 series.
