Default mod your license plate!

i was driving fast to work and got a ticket by one of those photo radar vans.

i think i was doing 65 in a 45.

Has anyone ever gotten out of these? Some people say that if you don't send them in - you don't have to worry about it.

Not sure about that one.

I know this for sure though - there's a layer of plastic that is on all Arizona license plates that's put in place to prevent corrosion and I believe it sticks to the plate via an air tight vacuum. My last license plate had the layer of plastic popping off the plate and it was pretty difficult to read the plate when you shined a light on it.

For my next mod, I think I'll be removing that air tight vacuum from my plate.

You should try it too!

here's how good it works

I've got a few pictures on my website that show the effect but I simply don't have enough time to scanning through them all right now (or I guess back then either). Regardless, it doesn't matter because most of my pictures I do not take with a flash.... the flash is what causes the reflection / overexposure of the spray stuff on the plate plus the picture is taken from an angle.

To summarize:
no flash - see plate
flash straight on - see plate
flash from an angle - depends. Strong flash, plate is ususally obscured or very hard to read. light flash or from an angle more-straight-on, sometimes obscured, sometimes not.

You're welcome to go look for yourself to see if you can find some...

It's worth the extra cost for me to have this on since we have both speed and red light cameras in Charlotte. I went in with two or three local friends and bought several cans to defray shipping

Photo Blocker Spray not only has its own website but is advertised in the back pages of many auto magazines.

http://www.phantomplate.com/photoblocker.html

I am posting this for your convienence, as a courtesy, but I am not necessarily endorsing its use or legality. And, in VA, it is now a mute point anyway ......the state legislature outlawed any further use of red-light cameras after July 1 of this year. No more tickets are mailed out based on the cameras alone....the violation has to be seen by a police officer.

I have one of those plastic plate cover things. Next weekend I'll post some pics to see if it actually does anything (flash, without flash, angle)
I have it on there so my plate doesn't get messed up. In Mass if you have an older plate you aren't required to have a front plate. So I want to keep my green plate for as long as I can.

I'm guessing I edited that pic with photoshop for a couple of reasons, but that IS what it looks like when it works.

I don't think that is a good example because you can see the tripod in the reflection of the pic, but you don't see a bright spot on the bumper that indicates a flash was used. Also the pic is straight on and it ususally doesn't blur the plate.

Koma, I'm assuming you have a plastic cover plate thing that is specifically sold to help overexpose or blur your plate, not just a normal license plate cover?
