Lexus Reveals All-New ES Luxury Sedan at Chicago Auto Show
01/17/2006
January 17, 2006 - Torrance, CA - Lexus will stage the world premiere of its all-new 2007 ES luxury sedan at a press conference during the Chicago Auto Show on Wednesday, February 8, 2006.
Arriving late this spring, the fifth-generation Lexus ES will set impressive new standards in design, styling, engineering, safety and performance.
The Lexus press conference is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. at the Lexus display area in McCormick Place convention center.
I think this is the same day Toyota reveals the new Tundra.
It has now been confirmed: new Camry year = new ES year. We'll wait and see whether or not the ES will be copying the new Camry as it's "richer" cousin... Hopefully, it will be designed significantly different than the Camry.
P.S. Good job Lexus for introducing the flagship and best selling Lexus sedan, both in the same year!
Repost(There is 2 threads already in the ES section). Anyway...I think the ES will be unveiled either a day vbefore or after the Tundra unveiling. I have to check that out again(there is a thread on the Tundra as well),

ES has been Camry's richer cousin for three generations, and both of them sell so well, so I don't see why Toyota/Lexus wants to change this method.
Because perhaps of the somewhat gnawing idea that the ES is a 'tarted-up Camry'...
...so eliminating the connection would enhance the exclusivity of the Camry.
Unlike some competitors that just rebadge an existing sedan model and call it a luxury one, at least Lexus managed to provide a different body design, etc. for the ES for three generations now. Now they might take that a step further.
This new ES better be packed w/ all kinds of goodies bc the XLE Camry has stuff that used to be reserved for luxury cars:
Standard: upgraded dual-zone automatic climate controlled system with steering-wheel controls, a premium 440-watt JBL audio system with Bluetooth™ technology for hands-free calling, wood-style trim, moonroof, rear reclining seats, fog lamps and 16-inch aluminum wheels; 268hp V6 w/ 22/31mpg.
Options: heated seats, voice-command DVD navigation system, leather-trimmed seating, rear spoiler, Vehicle Stability Control and a Smart Entry and Smart Start system with push-button start that allows drivers to lock, unlock, or start the car just by carrying the Smart Key on his/her person.
Thanks mmarshall, if they don't say, you can't be sure whether they're spyshots for a camouflaged ES or a camouflaged Camry . . .

These guys are really slick. This is getting to be more and more of a cat-and-mouse game all the time. Notice how they use black stamped-steel wheels instead of the car's regular silver alloys with logos so you can't even tell from THAT.

I'm pretty positive that Edmunds screwed up on that one--the test mule is a Camry, not an ES. Just look at the covered white "nose" in the grille. The ES will never have that.
A more convincing spyshot has been posted in another thread, where the test mule is optioned with a panoramic roof. Can anyone dig it out for this thread?

how can an connection to luxury car be bad for Camry? :-). Interior was always completly different. Exterior is what looked similar, and I am not sure if that CAN change. You can see a lot of IS clues in Camry, so I dont think ES will have less IS clues :-).
