When a boss receives "Letter of Resignation," is he or she required to provide an acknowledgement letter or "Proof of Leave"?

Usually, if its within a corporation, they notify the HR department and there are some close out forms they fill out. I was with my boss when she was filling mine out when i quit my last job. They werent anything special, they just said the rehire status and the nature of the split. It had some other things on there like last known addy and all that other stuff, but nothingt that i remember seen that said "proof of leave."
