I saw the new S-class ad and it looked good. The thing that caught my attention (and forgive me, I am a history junkie).
THE NINTH GENERATION S-CLASS..
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
That just sounded good out the guys mouth. The 9th gen. Wow, the S-class, gotta give it HELLA props, what a fantastic car and to see it continue to evolve is just something.
SOmeone post a pic :D
I will say when I was at the ML event, even though the previous ML is possibly one of the worst built anythings every made, they again, had pics of their history as a whole, the old racing cars, old awards, etc, again a good job. Clearly the uniformed customer would be drooling more than me.

I saw that commercial too - AWESOME! Most everyone on here ragged on the car's big wheel arches but I think it has a great PRESENCE - something really special.
Also, I love that heads up view within the speedometer they showed too :eek2:.

I love big flared arches. Just look at Audi and their A6 and A8's. Big arches look great on big coupes and big sedans. And yeah when I saw that commercial monday morning during the Today show I just froze in front of the TV. Kinda the same feeling I get when ever I see those Range Rover Rush ads. MB has another hit on their hands. The W220 was a classic.

i saw one in SF the other day with the same wheel pictured. It looked so good that i almost want to go into a MB dealer and got one. Just too bad that i dont have enough money. The car looks freaking amazing and it owns everything else in it's class!

Sorry guys, I love Lexus and all but the new S class has more flare and style than the new LS460. Actually, to me it's been this way with the current model too, I love the LS430/460 though, just that MB just has that special appeal in mind when designing their vehicles.

Yes, the new S has more flair in it's design, it will be more of a head turner. :)

Not at all feeling the new S class. The arches still look stupid. :p
The old model looked better and the new LS460 looks better.

In spite of its reliability issues, you can't really knock MB styling. The new S is definitely a head turner.

Mercedes is unsure about its new design.
And I don't know how I missed this.
What color is a Mercedes in EVERY SINGLE commercial?
Silver right? They make a beautiful silver(s).
They even have another ad out now, with the old SL and new SL/SLK etc racing, all silver.
Guess what, the new Benz S ad, the car is BLACK.
And you can see the front, but not the sides, i.e the WHEELARCHES
Your thoughts? I can't ever remember seeing a Benz in any color but silver.

the new wheel arches are too a la RX-8 avante gardish...for a clientele that usually caters to a more conservative (yet stylish) appeal, this is really a drattic departure from the old S Classes of old...
the tach is weird.

I think black gives it more presence. Much more imposing in general, for all cars.
Wheel arches are terrible in person, especially in silver. Regardless, it's an amazing design and I think MB will blow Lexus out of the water (or at least until the LS460 launches :p ).

From the side, Idon't think the new S looks better than the LS460, although the wheel arches makes it more eye-catching, but not necessarily aesthetically pleasing:

I don't like the Maybach like rear of the S at all :(

If it has the AMG kit, thats the only way I would take the S over the LS. But to be the CLS still owns the entire upper luxo sedan segment.

Interesting point. I dunno why they are using black now. They probably arent that confident with the design inside or out. Or maybe they want to get in touch with its Japanese side. Cause the new S definitely looks a Japanese model to me. Hmmm....maybe it would make a good VIP car. :)

It's a COUPE !! ;)
It does have an AMG kit since it's a S65 AMG I posted above, so it's the best the new S class could look direct from MB.

Benz may not be sure, but I am pretty sure this design is clumsy. The wheel
arches don't flow well. If they wanted to make the car look muscular it would've
been better to make them rounder and tad smaller. They overdid the wheel
arches sort of like Infiniti overdid the M's taillights :p

It's designed to look good while on the shoulder of the road waiting for the tow truck.

I don't like this new design - specifically those wheel arches that look so out of place.......... :thumbdn:
The rest of the car looks good, but those over done wheel arches are the deal breaker for me.......
Is this MB's interpretation of a "wide-body" look without actually making it a wide body?? :egads:

I think the S is struggling with the same design problem the LS460 is, that is, the long wheelbase versions look awkward and maybe MB tried to 'break up' the slab side with the wheel arches, but not that successfully. But I think that S65 looks out of sight.

LOL, that's what's bothering me. I don't see a car... All I see is arches. :)
Black is definitely best for hiding such unpleasant design features.

I don't know what is going on around the rear three quarters and the rear. Very inelegant. It looks like the old S-Class and the Maybach got it on and this is their b**tard offspring.

The new MB designs all seem a bit too "busy" for me. Way too many litle arches here and there, creases all over the place. Have you seen the new ML and R class cars? Friggin chrome and little things all over the place. I prefer the cleaner flowing lines better. I know the new S design will grow on me, but it doesn't make me jump like the 7th or 8th gen designs. The 7th was just huge and manacing, the 8th much more graceful and sexy. This one, I don't know...

Wow, considering how the Germans have always been more styled than the LS, seeing the pic of hte LS next to the S, the LS is pretty damn shapely.

The above pics of the new S and LS make it very clear which is superior:
LS460!!!
It's not even close for me. There's nothing wrong with the LS which can't be said for the S.
Well, I may get some flak for this, but if M-B is pushing the history thing on us, for me, it just worked.
Sweepback headlights? I-Drive clone on the console? Crappy electronics? Humpback-whale roofline?
Thanks but no thanks. I'll take the old one......hands down, together with that gorgeous aqua-blue-green paint over the silver.

They are getting better at modernizing their design, something I canīt say for too many automakers. When I see the newer Mercedes on the road, I have to turn my head and give a thumbs up on the designs. Much curvier and with better symmetry.
