First , I'm out at lunch in Stamford today and I see this guy walk out of Bobby Valentines...looking at him and I'm thinking I know this guy...heeeey wait - thats Lee Mazzilli - go over talk to him for a bit - good guy.
Then I drive to The Garden for the Rangers/Penguins game and I'm supposed to "drop off" the car that goes on the ice for intermission...the security guard tells me to go ahead up...I'm thinking that's cool....alllllll the way up...right to the zamboni tunnel. See a bunch of Pens hangin out kicking a soccer ball around and loosening up before the game. Then Sydney Crosby walks out as I'm putting on my NYR-1 plates on the car - gave the "What's up Syd?" and he uncomfortably responded with a hey what's up? It gets better:
enter Henrik Lundqvist - Yo Henrik you rock man - thanks enjoy the game - you playing tonite? - yeah I'm in.
On the way to the Play by Play run into the PA Announcer John (don't know his last name), but see him at the Junior Ranger clinics - he usually runs the Q&A period after the skate sessions.
After the Play by Play - pass Steve Vickers (ranger alum) in the hallways, then Dancin' Larry - if you've ever been to a game he's the guy way up in the 300/400 section that dances to "Strike it Up" - they put the spotlight on him the whole deal.
To top it all who comes over and sits in my section, John Amirante - the guy who sings the national anthem for the Rangers.
Got John A's autograph, but didin't want to take pictures with my crappy cell phone camera, and didn't think I'd be meeting all those guys at the game so didn't have my "autograph" jersey on.
Great time though!
