View Full Version : Free car wash at Lexus dealers?
Bluesman2 02-03-06, 11:16 AM I'm not a Lexus owner so this is something new to me. I've heard that you can bring your Lexus into the dealer and they'll wash it for you, and not just when you're in for service. Is that true? Can you stop in anytime and ask them to wash the car? Will they do that for as long as you own it? That would be a huge value to me over time.
Please enlighten me....
DaveGS4 02-03-06, 11:26 AM Many dealers will do that, yes - not all of them.
It's also a question of how much care you want to take of the paint on your car. I have one car (LS) I let the dealer wash and the other (GS, black) they don't ever touch.
Bluesman2 02-03-06, 11:28 AM Is there a limit? I could see having them wash the car for many moons to come.....
SDLexus 02-03-06, 12:41 PM My salesman told me that the dealer will wash the car for free as many times, and as often as I want. Just 'cause you can do it doesn't mean that it's a good idea though. If you don't care about swirls and just want a clean car then by all means, have at it.
encore888 02-03-06, 12:51 PM I was wondering if the handwash or machine wash is more common at Lexus dealers? Particularly in the SoCal area?
it's all about good will. there is no written rule about it.
and personally, i would not put my lexus in any of those car wash :)

mostly machine wash now, considering the number of lexus going in every day. but i believe a lot of them have machine wash, air blower, and then hand dry
Bluesman2 02-03-06, 01:53 PM My local dealer just built a new, state of the art, Lexus showroom and service facility. I think they have the latest and greatest brushless wash equipment. They're not quite ready to offer free washes all the time but that's their plan, they need to hire someone who'll run it first..
I just wondered about it. I would use the value of those washes in my cost of ownership model when comparing other makes & models.

Bluesman2 02-03-06, 02:47 PM Interesting! I'm sure that there are plenty of hack operations out there. I used to work for an Oldsmobile dealership many years ago and they had an automatic brush car wash. They'd put each new car through that washer and I'll be if they all didn't come out with brush swirls in the clear coat.......
I'll have to ask at the new Lexus dealer how they wash their cars. As I said, it's new and probably a brushless automatic system.
Also understand that I'm not buying this car to pamper it, it'll see at least 20,000 miles each year and all (4) seasons. I'll have plenty of road dirt and rock chips that would make most of you cringe. I will want to give it the best care that I can, and a big part of that would be keeping it clean. I park my car outside year round so it sees plenty of crud just from that. This car will be an appliance for me, albeit a comfortable, powerful and nice riding appliance.. :)
But what I wanna know is if they will detail it also along with Armourall on the tires.
RiverRat 02-03-06, 06:16 PM Most dealers will charge you for a detail, many dealers as Dave said will wash free of charge. My Lexus dealer does, but I only go there in the winter when it's too cold for me, they have a touchless so I don't really mind them washing it to get the salt off :D
DASHOCKER 02-03-06, 06:24 PM They vacuum the car too at the Lexus dealer I go to. No armor all darn :egads:
The Toyota dealer where I pick up some OEM fluids (ATF & Coolant) will wash my car for free just because it is rare that they ever see a Lexus. However, they will wash a customer's Toyota provided they bought it there or it is in for service for free.
