Keep in mind that the age of everybody in Europe (particulary non-immigrants) is getting to be about 58. They have pretty much forgotten how to have babies over there.

LOL, true! Italy has the lowest birth rate in the world. (Hmm... mostly Catholics? )

new civic is very expensive... but sales of civic were very low in general in europe that it might bring in more customers despite the pricing... (hatch is 5k more expensive than sedan, figure it out).

Sales of Civics in Europe are also hampered by two additional factors...One, that Honda itself markets even smaller and less-expensive models there ( like the Fit just now coming to the U.S. ), and, two, that Civics and other small Hondas have to compete with many European-nameplate mini-cars that are sold there but not in the U.S........primarily from VW, Fiat, and Renault. What's more, European countries sometimes subisidize their own home-market brands and do not exactly encourage the sale of Japanese-nameplate cars.

kind of. Fit and Civic fall under two very different categories in Europe (like Civic or Accord do in USA). Also, Civics are produced in UK (same as Corolla's) and are customs free.
Old Civic sold 4x less than Corolla in 2005 in Europe. Now they are trying more premium approach and pricing is similar to A3. It seems like it is working so far...
