The 2007 Mercedes-Benz SL anniversary edition may not be gold, but it's still worth its weight in gold with that $100,000-plus sticker price. The special car is being produced in a limited edition of 550. (Photo courtesy of Mercedes-Benz)
MONTVALE, N.J. — To celebrate the anniversary of the original 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster, the German automaker has introduced its 2007 50th Anniversary SL roadster for $100,675, including a $775 destination charge.
Mercedes-Benz spokesman Rob Moran told Inside Line that only 550 units will be produced. The roadster is on sale now.
"It's basically an appearance package," Moran said. The golden anniversary SL is dressed up in a pewter metallic exterior with cognac brown leather upholstery in the cabin. It features 18-inch twin-spoke wheels that are not available on any other SL models, as well as an anniversary-edition rear shelf bag.
Other standard equipment includes a 5.5-liter 382-horsepower V8, bi-xenon adaptive headlamps, ventilated seats, five airbags and a DVD-based navigation system. A standard trim package bundles a black ash wood/leather steering wheel and shift knob.
The limited-edition SL is also equipped with an eight-speaker digital Bose sound system with a six-disc CD changer.
What this means to you: At least Mercedes had the sense to skip the gold paint with this anniversary special.
